i was looking at the intake and i noticed that there are 2 sections to the intake. One thiner air tupe that goes under rom what i see, the larger one would only open up at higher RPM's. So, is there any way to bypass that valve and make both sections of the intake open at all times? With the location of the intake, if i were to drop in a k&n air filter, in theory wouldnt i have a cold air intake? Heres pics of what im refering to. THe valve/shuter is in there. Looks like thats the device that opens it, activated by vacume?

I went to the dealer today to pick up my plates, so i asked the mechanic about it. He confirmed that it opens at higher RPM's. And is activaded harmonicly. So, if i were to bypass it i couldnt see any harm? Other then a louder engine.

did you buy the car or are you leasing? if you're leasing i wouldn't mess with it. If you bought it...do it at your own risk i guess.

I can't see how it would cause any harm anyways, it's just allowing more air to enter the intake manifold. The only positive thing I can see about how it's setup now, is if you drive through heavy rain or deep puddles, water can't get into the intake as easily if the top section is sealed off. Because the lower section has some resonators and more piping which should catch more debris/water.
I would think the oxygen sensor the MAP sensor and all that computerized equipment are tied together and would freek out if you just made some part stop working. I know the K&N has a spot for most if not all the tubes to plug in. Maybe the K&N site could give you some info.
