Gen6 Hid Problem!!!

I just installed the MTEC hid kit for my 08 camry. Everything worked just fine at first...but the next day...one of the lights won't light. the bulb on the side is fine becuase i switched to other side and it lights. the problem is the ballast...why might this have happend? i have fog lights too if that helps. Did i just get a bad ballast or did soemthing happen that caused this...i'm trying to get a replacement ballast but i dont want this to happen again.

btw...the mtec does not come with a relay harness of any kind...the ballast connects directly into the car's stock power plug for the headlight

Did you check fuses/relays, wiring connections or just assume the ballast was bad?

Power to the ballast??????????????????????????????????????????? ????????

You really should get a relay harness, the stock wiring harnesses are not designed to carry all the current that HID lights require on start up. It could be that one of the ballasts isn't getting enough initial power, did you try switching the ballast the opposite side?

I had a similar problem with my cheap eBay kit on my previous car, and I got it to fire up after turning off and on the headlights quickly.

yea...i took the broken ballast and plugged it into the other side and the bulb wont light...i unplugged the good ballast and the bad one still won't light...so i guess it deosnt ahve to do with startup power..also because they both started up fine the day before when i installed them...there is no relay harness of any kind...the plug that goes into the stock plug goes almost directly into the ballast..the only thing between them is just a wire...no fuse..no relay..its just a wire. i emailed mtec and they said they'd get me a new one...sigh..

you should also get a relay harness while you're at it. just because it lights once and works doesn't mena that it'll last tomorrow. you've just proven that, so just because your car doesn't catch fire today, it doesn't mean that it won't happen tomorrow.
Get a relay harness and save your self some trouble in the future. I also hope you covered the squirrel spotter too.

did you get the bootlegged mtec hid kit or the authentic one? relay harness is not required, it'll work without them
