How hard do you have to hit to break a rim?

I was driving 25mph in my development when i hit a patch of ice. Instintivly i hit my brake (i know i should have down shifted to L and gave it a little bit of gas). My car slid and i smashed into the curb with my front left tire. The force made me do a 180 degree turn and i smashed the curb with my rear right tire. The rear tire jumped teh curb and then came off the curb. I got out of my car and low and beholrd my entire rear right suspension is bent inward at a diagonal, my rear right rim is broken, and my ABS light is turned on. I managed to drive my car into my driveway. I was stupid and decided to take the tire in the back off to see the damage. The second i took the last lugnut off the wheel jumped out at me. I could clearly see the suspension bent. and as for the tire well it melted from rubbing agaisnt the wheel well when i drove it back. Sorry no pictures i was a little to pre-occupied with my three wheeled car to think of taking pictures.

that sounds like a shit load of damage for going just 25 mph....i once hit a curb at at least 30+, and yea the rim/tire broke and i had to replace the whole thing, but that was about it...how did you manage to rip your underside of the car :\

my car was parrallel to the curb when the rear tire smashed into it and jumped it thats why my suspenison and all that stuff was bent...I got evryhting fixed already but the damges came to total around 1500$..i needed a new rim, 2 new tires, wheel alignment, new wheel bearing, replace the enitre right rear suspenison components, plus the mental anguish that has no price

Sounds like your rim is gone.

As for the strength of rims: How its cast is a major component in structural integrity.
