Gen5 Hanging Wires in Trunk?

I noticed there was no light bulb in my trunk. It's a pretty minor issue, but it sure makes unloading and loading the trunk at night a pain.

I bought a replacement bulb and went to pop it in, only to discover some wires with a plug on the end hanging out of a hole in the top of the trunk. Someone at the local auto parts store said it's probably supposed to connect to a circuit board of some kind, which would include the light bulb.

Since I bought my '02 used, I have no idea what this is. Any help?

Thanks,
Sam

Sounds like the bulb holder is missing. You can buy a replacement holder, or you could probably do the cold cathode light mod.

You can get a set of cathode lights for computers and put them in the trunk. They're a lot brighter than the bulb that's normally in there. A set costs maybe $10 shipped. Here's my DIY

DIY Cold cathode trunk light install (56K warn - 988KB of photos)

You could take some quick disconnects and stick them in the plug.
