5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well I searched the forum and found little or no one saying anything about their 2008 v6 with flare. Those posts were couple months ago when the 2008 just came out and may be they did not have a chance to experience the flare yet. I thought it may be a good time now to ask the question again.
As I said before, its still a gen 6. If you bothered to spend 10 minutes on your dear problem, you would realize that this topic has been discussed past death.
Your last statement demonstrating knowledge about how the recent TSBs making the condition worse shows your blissful ignorance. Perhaps, in order to debate with me, you actually decided to read up on the pre-existing posts.

My 08 V6 build in Kentucky December 07, flares. It's 16 days since I took it out the dealership. It flared really bad when I was at the cold places (Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois), now that I'm back in CA, the flare is still there, but not as bad. I'm gonna have them checked at Longo Toyota later, and hope they get it fixed. By the way, I got 4.1k miles on my car at the moment, the flare came in 400-500+ miles, when I reached the cold places, I took my car for a long road trip the 3rd day I got my car.

You better be careful. A big flare might throw your "I'm too cool for seat belts" butt out the windshield

2008 V6 XLE - built in Kentucky - only 3000 miles
Bought in Aug 07 - delivered in Sept 07 - one of the first 2008s.
Wife's car - I don't get to drive it much
No problems - I have been looking for flares but have not seen any.

Tranny flair on 08's has not been a topic until now despite your rant. Yes, the topic has been hashed over but that was a year ago. Save for one comment in this thread, I recall nobody stating that any trannies built after the last tsb have had a problem. I think the hope here is that the problem is solved. Some folks want to say that a Gen 6 is a Gen 6, but the rest of us know better. Firmware changes. So, anyone else have a problem with their 6 speed tranny? And not some problem with their 5 speed I4, thank you.

It would seem that if the problem first appears after exposure to extreme cold, it is a hardware problem in the transmission caused when exposed to cold two disimiler metals like aluminum and copper press fitted parts separate in the tranny and that the software fixes are an attempt to compensate for this tolerance problem at cold temperatures. And when warmed up problem goes away.
My 08 V6 SE is to new to know if it will develop a problem manufactured in 11/07 1100 miles.
I had an 88 honda accord that did this on a gear upshift only at night untill warmed up.

The official reading I got from Toyota is that it was a SW problem, which has been fixed now. I am not sure how the SW is setup, but a lot of control schemes have adaptive temperature controls from the get go. If that is the case on the Camry (not sure if anybody not working in the tuning department of Toyota would be able to answer that), we would not be able to distinguish if they simply used SW to overcome any temperature dependent problems or if the temp dependent control part of it caused the issue in the first place. Doesn't matter to me if the problem is fixed. Time will tell on the 08's if they finally did.
