how many people have gotton rid of this smell, dealer wants 50 bucks for ac service, is this covered under warranty. tried alcohol water mix didnt seem to last long.
If your car has a filter, see if it needs replacement. Otherwise, try spraying lysol or an air disinfenctent into the vents form the inside and more importantly from the outside where your windshield meets your hood. I would spray, let it soak, then run the car with the fan at full blast and spray at this time as well.

Brake lights aren't broken, I just don't brake.
--Can honestly go to a parts counter and ask for brake shoes for the front brakes.
--Likes long walks on the beach.... once it's lit by a massive bonfire.

No, it's not under warranty.
$50 is cheap enough, they will get rid of the smell.
Yeah, the smell sucks. My car has that kind of stinky smell since it left the dealership the first night. It smelt just like burnt coolant from my old Eclipse, I called up Longo Toyota, they told me to give it 2 weeks, the smell should go away, my car is exactly 16 days old now, and it's still having that smell.
But that smell goes off when I turn on the "RECYCLED CABIN AIR" mode, which fogs up my windshield very often. When I'm outside the car, I don't smell that stinky smell, but somehow that smell is in the car.

I believe the smell was from mold forming in a portion of the A/C unit where there was water left over, possible the condenser. There was a lot of talk about this during the summer, and some people had success spraying isopropyl alcohol into the air vents.

Actually, the condensor is in front of the radiator.
The smell is coming from mold and mildew on the evaporator core inside the dash.
The dealer will perform an A/C Refresher service which is a two part service. A foam is put into the evaporator case through the drain at the bottom of the care. The foam expands and engulfs the evaporator core and the case killing any bacteria, fungus, mildew, etc. Then they spray a cleaner/deodorizer through the cowl. It's very effective.

Thats right, I knew it was either the evaporator or condenser, it's just been a while since it's been talked about here that I completely forgot.
my camry often has "the smell" when i use a/c and heat to get rid of fogged windows....it really drives me nuts
ill have to use the cleaner machiene at work this week and see if itll make that damn smell go away

This is what I heard would be the cause too.
A good rule to go by that I use; is to turn off the AC about a mile away from your destination.
Or you can just roll with the windows down all the time if you have weather like we do here in Hawaii.

So, if I need Toyota to fix the problem, I'd have to pay them $50? But the problem was there since day 1. Was kinda sad I didn't thoroughly test the AC before I drove the car out of the dealer lot.
