5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
im glad they decided to go up to date with the 4cyl powerplants....the 2az-fe pushes my gen 5 pretty well, but its not as effective with the gen 6....this new 2.7L should do quite well
cant wait to see the gen 6.5 camry!
So does that mean that the 6-speed automatic transmission will be standard with the new Camry's? That also makes it seem like there would no longer be a 5-speed manual option with the I4.
When I first heard about the 2.7L I4 in the Venza, I thought it was using the 2.7L engine from the previous I4 4Runner's and Tacoma's, although as others have said that engine is pretty out dated.
I do not want to hijack this thread...but looks like Toyota also adopts the (dropping) front nose/Emblem design across their new line-up? First Camry, Rolla, now Venza. I am not too hot on this Venza interior design either.
nice, now it'll be on par with the accord I4... and who knows maybe now we'll get a 6-speed manual to go with the I4 and the V6... it'll be very interesting to see what the gen 6.5 has in store for us....

toyota should worry about fixing the 6 speed transmission they offer now before they make a new one that, may or may not work properly. i also think they should offer a 6 speed manual on the v6, it may attract more sports car types since it does offer a 268 hp engine. some of you may or may not agree, i realize the camry is not a sports car but it will give the married guys an excuse to buy a "family sedan" that is also fun to drive. and keeping in that directions maybe they could offer a 2 door coupe in the v6 or even the i4 to compete with the honda accord.
if the 2.7 really offers that much power i could also see that using a 6 speed manual. sometimes in the high 70's and 80's i wish there was an extra gear there just for gas consumption on the highway. but a 6 speed on an I4 may look too sporty and make people think they're trying to complete with cars like the acura rsx or similar.
maybe i just threw the word sporty around too much but thats how i feel on the subject.
