Return it to the store. Tell them it was already opened. I'm sure they won't give you shit if you ask for an exchange.

i probably should have returned it, but the store i bought it at is a long ways out. I just want to make sure there isn't really just corn oil in my engine. It's definitely thicker than corn oil. I drove the car to work/store and back and everything's fine. The color of the oil is pretty much clear.

i've experimented with pretty much every brand of synthetic and found pennzoil platinum to be one of the worst.

On what basis? The used oil analysis results I've seen on Penz Plat seem to look pretty good.

not based on anything except for personal experience. I have to change my oil pretty much every 2-3 weeks because of how much the car gets driven. I can feel obvious differences in the smoothness and power of the engine between different oils as well as how long they last before they need changing. With the couple of jugs of penz i used the engine felt sluggish and the oil turned jet black after only 4000km. With mobil the engine always feels smooth and powerful and i usually dont need to change it for 6000km.

i don't think those are good indicators of oil quality.. it's like trying check your temperature with your hands - doesn't work well.

hey i'll do what works for me and you do what works for you.

some people like to rely on tests and others on personal experience or trial/error. there are "tests" out there that say Ford are good quality vehicles but that doesn't mean I'll buy one.

I've got no problem with that. I'm a regular contributor (and a site admin) over at Bobistheoilguy.com, and over the years, I've seen many, many instances of people noticing differences in how an oil "feels" when run in their cars. I've noticed the differences myself. You should use what makes you comfortable (within reason, if feel the urge to use SAE 60 racing oil in the winter in Minnesota, you've got a problem...or you will soon).

I was just wondering if you'd had bad indications in a UOA, as that would be relatively rare. One specific objective thing that PP seems to be good for is withstanding fuel dilution, which for whatever reason can be an issue in the Prius (mine shows some dilution on UOA). I've tried it in my car and it ran fine, but of course, your observations and preferences are what matter in your car.

How did you judge the quality? You got lab tests on your used oils? If no, please don't simply judge a product by your own opinion/preference, it is very misleading.

LOL @ you. this is a forum and people are free to state their opinions and preferences. Don't post on here trying and tell people what they can and can't post on forums. thank you.

Lots of people read this forum for advice and information, what you state here isn't backed up with facts/proofs, and therefore very misleading. I didn't say you can't have your opinion, but it's not very encouraging at all to state an opinion that isn't backed up with facts/proofs.
