fuel filter

Where is the fuel filter for the 2002 Camry? And is it easy to change?

um im not sure if its located on the firewall. I have a 2002 V6 and the posts here say it just doesnt have a fuel filter, it has a fuel screen built into the fuel pump. And that is the only fuel filter on it. I guess it gets changed if you change the fuel pump.

This is an iffy deal. I know that they do have the filter in the tank, and are usually not seviceable on these new models, But Im still able to pull part numbers and service guides to replace the firewall mounted filter.

That is exactly the fuel filter I have on my '02 Avalon. Toyota doesn't want to change it, however, and that makes me nervous. Is there a history of issues they don't want to deal with? Parts dept. carries them, but the service writer says no, not unless you got contaminated fuel.
What to do?

I had it done at 30k by a trusted mechanic who is no longer in business. I'm looking at 95k now, and just a little uncomfortable. Gas quality is an issue when you're away from home!

Well I have an external fuel filter on my 1994 Jeep (which is recommended to be changed at 30,000 miles intervals). At 160,000 miles my fuel pump died. I dropped the gas tank to replace it. When I went inside the tank to wipe it down, there was nothing. I mean nothing. It was clean as can be. I contribute this to the use of plastic gas tanks and cleaner gas. All fuel pumps have a socket type filter on the inlet of the pump. This is really all that is needed.

I consider any external filter to be an extra precautionary measure.
