08 I4 exhaust question

i was looking under the car today at the exhaust and looking at clearances and what not. while i was under there i saw the cat and the resonator but im not 100% sure which is which. im assuming the cat is the smaller one closest to the motor and the resonator is the big long one just after it. am i right on that?

oh i know what a resonator looks like and where it is. but i didn't know what it did. since resonator means to bounce off a sound etc, i thought it made it louder

the resonator keeps the car from sounding raspy and nasty.its a matter of opinion but i think its necessary to obtain a smooth, throaty exhaust note.what part of Alabama are you from mn011890?

no resonator. If I had another no-name brand exhaust, then my exhaust would've sounded raspy, not throaty like mine.
