5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just picked up a 2005 Camry LE 2.4L 5spd. It has auto door locks, but no keyless entry. I know a mechanic for Lexus and was wondering if it was possible for him to install keyless entry from a Lexus system into my Camry? What parts would I require? Also, will IS300 rims fit my car? I'm in the process of completely re-doing the stereo, are the front tweeters in the dash difficult to access? Any help is greatly appreciated.
1. if you have an LE you should have keyless as it is standard on LE trim...the base camry is the one lacking keyless...it can also be indenified by black side mirrors and no power seat. if you indeed have an LE it should be wired for keyless but the remote is missing, sinmply buy another one off ebay or something and it can be programmed by code for your car. youll need a whole keyless entry system if you have the base camry
2. IS wheels fit the camry....5x114.3 bolt pattern same as camry.
3. the tweeter covers just pop out to my knowlege...dont quote me as im not 100% sure...i have JBL and i havent felt the need to crack into my audio system.
it is very easy to program the key fob to your system.. just make sure you follow the directions to the T.
as for the tweeter position, i highly recommend not using that location as it will not yield good sq.. get baffles made to house the door speaker and the tweeter.. aim the tweeter upwards and imaging is very good..
other than a lack of power seat, body colored mirrors, ABS and keyless....its still a camry so its still a great car.
im sure common parts from a lexus keyless system can be adapted to the camry as the ES and camry are quite similar...youd prob need a toyota remote and older lexus system as lexus uses computerized keyfobs with built in keys...camrys just simply have a 4 button (lock/unlock/trunk open/panic) seprate remote keyfob and noncoded (SE 4 cyl, base, LE) key. the ( SE V6, XLE) have a coded key.
in my opinion, id save your money and buy a good aftermarket system by python or viper and have that installed...cheaper and youll get a better alarm system, as camrys like mine diont evern have an alarm, its just a keyless entry system.
