5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Jesus. I had to have SEVERAL GM rental cars to confirm this. Old gal has an '07 Camry V6 SE. Remote start. Hey great! Well, yeah, the keyfob works great if you're within 50ft of the car. Remote start as well.
I can remote start my GM rental from HUNDREDS of feet away. The kicker is, when I UNLOCK the doors, the god damn motor doesn't turn off (unlike the Camry, which is bullshit). All you do in the GM is unlock the doors, get in, you have to put the key in and turn it to run in order to switch from park to drive, etc...
Not the Gods' Chariot freaking Camry. Have to STOP the car running, and start it again.
Yeah, that makes sense. Dealer is no help either, according to them, it can't be changed.
Hmm, is it too early to start looking for another car that MAKES SENSE?

Did you (or your old gal) TEST DRIVE your 07 Camry SE before buying it? And did you or your old gal try out the remote start before spending an extra $500 for it?
Before buying a 20-some thousand dollar car, it is always a good idea to test drive the car and try out all of its features, how it drives, and so on. Doing this can prevent the frustration that you are now experiencing.
Bottom Line: If you don't like your "God's Chariot Freaking Camry"... why did you buy it?
The thing I hate about the long distance remotes is coming out to find you have unlocked the car from inside without knowing it. I have a habit of putting my hands in my pocket and several times with my montego I would come out to find it unlocked.
Although it's not a big deal to restart the car I agree the engine shouldn't shut down when the door opens. The aftermarkets I've installed only died if you hit the brake before putting the key in the ignition.

My worst nightmare. hitting the button, unlocking the car, comming out the next morning with it trashed! the remote has a LONGGG range! id say a good 2-300ft!
i don't know what kind of aftermarket systems you guys are talking about. because even if i mistakenly hit the button and unlocked my car, it automatically locks itself back.
i believe its called a passive alarm system.
i have a Compustar system and it's the best system i ever had.
the best part is this feature is totaly switchable via keypad.
My Viper 5900 goes about a mile, real nice range, but having my alarm go off that far away is dangerous, I wouldn't be able to run back to check my car fast enough

I prefer the after market alarms with remote start. They can be set up to how you want. I have a Prestige 2way on my last car and looking for a new 2way system from my 07 LE

Yea, engine should not stop - but does not bother me too much as the main purpose is that the car/engine warm up while you are still in the warm house/restaurant etc. I guess its simply a safety concern. Maybe their is a trick to change that...

Why don't you go to the bathroom and get the sand out of your vagina and stop bitchin'? That's a great idea!

The OEM Gen 6 system does this as well (as do nearly every modern Toyota).

It will also shut down after like 10 minutes. I started my Camry to warm up and forgot...long story short is I came outside about 15 minutes later and it wasn't running.
BTW: All of these complaints crack me up. I tested it before purchase, understood and accepted the downside. I only use it to warm up my car on cold mornings. I can start it from my bedroom, so when I get my coffee and leave it is warmed up and comfortable without bundling up like the kid in Christmas Story.

+ 1 .....when using at home, I just need to always remember to open the garage door as well ...it is so cold here that even the garage cools down to freezing temperatures.
