Gen6 Rear view mirror camera display

Hi everybody, I was wondering if anyone had the bacup camera dealer installed on a Camry 08 XLE the type offered by Toyota with the display in the rear view mirror?. Does the mirror have the compass or do you lose the compass in the new mirror?. Thanks.

I missed that one - never heard about a dealer installed backup camera option with mirror display. If you have the Nav unit, you can directly hook up a backup camera to your Nav unit as well. Just in case.

Actually yes, I have the NAV and all the othe goodies, the reason I want the dealer to install the camera is to avoid any hassel concerning warranty issues in the future and the dealer said the the only solution for the camera offered by Toyota is the rear view mirror one. By the way, if you do a google on camry backup camera you will find a press release on Toyota offering it in late 2007 by Gentex.

I have one on display in my showroom and this one does NOT display the compass. There is a newer one that just came out and I have not seen it. I can find out if it has a compass display.

Yes, as I said, I missed that option...I am the same way, I try to have the dealer install as much as possible to avoid any warranty concerns. I even had my body kit installed by them...hope you can find out the answer to your original Q. I will be watching.

If you already have the NAV unit I find that compass in the mirror not very useful...I would simply have them the camera installed w/ or w/o compass in mirror. I think autodimming is much more important.

Very true. Auto dimming + tinted widows, great combo.

My tint is 20% all around and works very good with auto dimming.

I dont see a use for a backup camera on a sedan. SUV ya cause you might miss a close low car. Nice feature but I see backup sensors as more useful if you can't tell if your getting close to an object or something. Still have to look left and right when backing up so looking back is just a little more.

Not all mod's are entirely practical...in case of backup camera, I am pretty tall and still have a large blind spot when backing up. Agree, still have to check left and right.

Well, I set an appointment at the dealer to install it next Friday, even if it doesn't have the compass, I would still have the compass on he NAV display. I hope the new one would have the compass in the mirror though.
