5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I got a brand new 2007 Camry SE (I4) in May 2007. I have been regularly checking the fuel economy stats for it each time I fuel up. For the first 5-6 months, I was getting close to 17-18 mpg. I primarily drive in San Jose (not too much on the highways, though I do occasionally go up to San Francisco, which is like 40 miles away). The official (advertised) figures are 24 city, 34, highway. I dont get anywhere as close to these, even if its 100% highway driving. I do know that normally you get 3-4 mpg's less than the quoted ones. Can someone give me a realistic estimate of mpg's for this variant? Also, my latest refuel gave me a meagre 15mpg (approx 210 miles for 14.15 gallons)
I had my 5k mile service done a month back. Any tips?
City driving has an infinite number of variables. City driving in one area is not the same in another area. With 100% city driving, I average 18 MPG. It's been lower than that but not often.

The basics are as follows. Tire pressures at 35 psi all the time, make sure who changes your oil is using preferably 0w20 (that is initial fill at the factory) or 5w20. Conservative driving speeds. Make sure you are driving it in overdrive, not 1,2,3, etc. Let me know if I can be of anymore help.

Thanks for the tip. I actually havent ever checked tire pressures on the car (this is my first car, I'm a total noob as far as cars go ). I have an automatic btw (forgot to mention). I've had just one oil change till now, at my 5k service. I did that at the dealership i got the car from, so I'm assuming it was alright - I didnt check which oil was put in though.
if you got it changed at the dealer, i would think the oil quality is pretty good.
as for the fuel mileages, also do note that the car learns how you drive and adjusts to it. the first 5k the car response felt delayed but i'm almost hitting 10k and i have a bit of a lead foot and the car responses much faster to me.
i have a 08 4banger too i seem to average 200miles on half tank. i do 75% h.w and 25% city. they say you get better fuel mileage as you drive. hopefully its true. right now its winter time so i hope in the summer ill get better mileage as well.. .
Here is my car info for 2007. (Camry SE V6, mostly HWY)
804.548 Total Quantity Purchased (Gallons)
$2,084.14 Total Cost ($)
2.581 Average Price ($/G)
27.83 Average Fuel Economy (MPG)
54 Total # Fill-ups
31.77 Highest MPG
21.91 Lowest MPG

When I got my first oil change at a Toyota dealer they used 10w30 in my 0w20 car... doesnt inspire much confidence... mpg dropped 15% also...
