5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I took the 07 Camry into Tustin Toyota on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2007, for the driver side All-Weather mat recall. They stated that it needed to be ordered, and will be in the following week.
Went to Tustin Toyota today and they now stated that the new all weather mat has been recalled as well. Verbatim, the service person said, "We did not know until we opened the box and a note was in there stating to return it back." So basically, the "new" weather mat recall, was recalled, and was told to call back in a couple weeks.
Just inquiring if anyone has heard of this, that the recalled mats were recalled? Or is this Tustin Toyota jerking me around once again?
I received a letter from Queensboro Toyota a while back on the issue. Im pretty sure the recall was because the first all weather mats didnt have this hole for the clip located on the bottom right hand side of the mat to hold it securely to the carpet/flooring of the vehicle. As a result, the mat creeps upward towards the pedals. They said that if this happens it can jam the pedals such that you have to fight the mat to depress the pedals and this is a safety issue. This was a while back since i received it but i dont clearly recall what exactly it was. Im about 90% sure the issue was that forementioned above.
The first all weather mats do have the holes for the clip to keep it secured and it was recalled. I still have those. I have no idea how the newer ones are.
I went to the dealer and they still say they don't have the mats in, so I don't know if the new ones have been recalled or if they just don't have the new ones yet.

my all weathers (that were recalled) has holes on both sides, bottom left and right. i think the recall is not only to prevent the above, but also in the event that the mat slides forward while the pedal is depressed, causing it to constantly accelerate after you remove your foot from the gas pedal.
I've had that happen in my old k5 silverado and it's pretty scary to say the least. The mat jammed up against the gas pedal and the truck kept accelerating. Luckily it was uphill and was carb driven, god knows how much quicker the response time is for fuel injected cars now a days. (And yes, I had to prime my truck before I turned her over - i miss it!)
^ hm my camry came with the mats with the two holes. This was like very late December when we got it ..
I just picked up my new all weather mats today. They are not officially released (dealer info) yet but the dealer can get them already somehow, obviously. The still have the holes and come with clips to put on the floor to hold them on the driver side.
The lame part is they recall mats for not having a hole, while not doing it for the tranny which skips....
I guess it is easy to recall a floor mat before having a real replacement...not really possible with a tranny. At least, they appear to replace tranny's w/o too much trouble (yes, I know some dealers are more stingy).

So true! Well...it's easier to appear responsible with respect to a $20 mat, right?
BTW, I don't know what all the big fuss is about with the driver's mat. I bought a set of 4 OEM mats on the day when I bought my car.
My driver's mat has had two holes and clips from day one. And I have never ever had any slippage or movement with it. Toyota is generous with these mats BTW.
The mat on our Benz ML500 only has one hole and one clip.

People supposedly put the all weather mat's on top of the regular carpeted mat's...no hook up possible, some may have slipped and caused an accident with injuries..and Toyota had to recall. The new mats are the same, as far as I can tell, as the old version. I guess if people would have accidents with serious injuries because of the tranny flares things would look different. Just a guess.

sorry forgot to add i got them late december in 2006... the car came with them that way. i guess the american ones didnt.
