5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So, I recently replaced my brake pads with genuine brake pads, but for some reason, the mechanic I went to didn't seem to done a good job. He told me he sanded the discs and checked if there were any warped surfaces and found none. He replaced the pads and all but the squealing just didn't go away, now it's worse and now it's pissing me off. So I was wondering two things that might of happened.
1.) He didn't swap out the pads at all and stole mine.
2.) He didn't sand the surface good enough and didn't install it correctly.
I might have to go and talk with him. This will be my last time with him and hopefully, I can find a better one.

Didn't have time to do them yourself? Ask if he put any anti squeel product.

Brake lights aren't broken, I just don't brake.
--Can honestly go to a parts counter and ask for brake shoes for the front brakes.
--Likes long walks on the beach.... once it's lit by a massive bonfire.
Sand the surface?? This is not a good way to prep rotors for a brake job.
"Turn" or "machine" the rotors, any good mechanic would only use one of these methods. As for the pads, what kind did you use? Some pads are more prone to make noise even if they are installed properly. Hell, my 2007 Camry has brake noise now!!
^ He machined the brakes since I know what machinery he has and I bought Genuine Toyota Brake Pads. I made sure they're the right ones for mine since mine is manufactured in Kentucky, so I got one that were made for US built models.

When you accuse somebody without knowing it for sure you sin!
Do you think a mechanic that has thousands of parts take you junk and put it on his Chevy?
When your rotors get worn out they start to squeak. Not too much you can do about it! Toyota trys to fight this by adding two anti squeak shims to the outer side of the pad. Did you buy them with pads?

I must correct myself: worn rotors do not squeal. But the sound may come from the rear...

I don't accuse people easily.
Hahahaha, you're a funny guy. Talking like you know me and the mechanic. Not to mention this quote, "Did you buy them with pads?" Hahahah, sorry you made my day with that quote.
Also sound coming from the rear? Sorry guy but the front brakes are your main brakes. The rear are your parking/emergency brakes, thus the handbrakes, so no, the sound isn't coming from back there. Here, have a cookie for the day.

Your rear brakes do actuate when you press the brake pedal be it drums or discs. I got a bunch of sand in my drums once after a sand storm and they squealed like mad.
It's possible that there are no shims or there is no anti-squeal adhesive or whatever on the back of the pads.
Toyota disk brakes can have issues with squealing. Make sure the mechanic installed the shims, anti-squeal springs and paste. Or the mechanic did not completely break any glass on the disk surfaces. Most pads need to broken in for a few hundred miles and until then heavy braking can cause glazing.

r u kidding? anyway your brakes probably need a good cleaning and an anti squeal product.
Basically, I'll be going back to the mechanic. If he's gonna charge me for his poor service, I'm finding another one. Basically, I think Autobacs is a good place. They have some awesome deals. $100 per axle for a brake pad replacement. Which includes fluid inspection, machining, and new pads.

I think he's talking about this part which sounds wrong to me too because it sounds like xpeed is saying that the rear brakes are only actuated when the parking brake is applied.
