5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Okay, I came across these directions today to disable the seatbelt chime (Thank you to whoever posted the original instructions). I tried it as soon as I got home from work, and it worked. You will need the help of an assistant, unless you are coordinated:
-Get in and shut all the doors.
-Do not touch anything, even the brake, simply turn the key to the ON position (don't start the car)
-Change the ODO/Trip meter to ODO.
-Turn the key to off for a few seconds, then back ON again (again, don't start it)
-(This step might require your assistant) Within 6 seconds of turning the key to the ON position, press and hold the ODO knob and fasten the driver's seat belt
-As soon as the seat belt is fastened, the readout should change from the mileage to b-ON. Press the ODO knob one time and the readout should change to b-OFF
-Once the desired setting is reached (b-ON will chime, b-OFF will NOT chime), sit and wait for the LCD to show the mileage again.
-Once the mileage is displayed, you're done and can turn the car off
If you miss ANY step, this process will not work. I also read that while this works on all Gen 5's, it MIGHT work on the Gen 6's. This hasn't yet been confirmed.

i have a 2003 SE and mine has no chime...just an indicator on the dash
and the code you posted above is what normally works...if that doesnt work for you, take it to the dealer and theyll hook it up to the computer and disable it for you
but just wear your seatbelt. and dont use the excuse "i put stuff on my seat so thats why i dont want it on"..
Too late
There are many reasons why a camry owner might not want to have the seat belt chime active and it is really no one's business but the owner of said camry why they want it disabled. No one should have to come up with 'an excuse' - I want it off, end of discussion.
People that make it their busniness and stand on a soap box about it should join a church and become preachers so they can tell everyone how to live their life and have an audience that really wants to listen.
I keep mine on so that I don't have to tell my passengers to put on their seatbelt. It gets tiring for me to keep reminding them every time we get in. Instead of my voice, I let the dinging annoy them.

Yeah, my front seat passengers always puts their seat belt on - but sometimes they forget and I don't notice so it's nice to have an audible reminder seeing as how you can get a ticket for not wearing your seat belt here.
The chiming definitely makes me want to rip my ears out though, when all I want to do is move my car down the street or into the garage!

You're damn right bro...! i thought i was the only one who thinks like this instead of like another one of the mindless sheep in our country, who are busy child-proofing the whole world -
Example: A new law went into effect in California last month, which stipulates that you cannot smoke in your own car if a minor is in the car at the same time.
I can hear the arguments for/against the law now, but its too late, it's in effect. Perhaps the most important thing is that nobody asked our opinion or put it to a vote, they just passed the law. (Probably for state revenue purposes really) but i am neither for nor against this latest law as while i do smoke sometimes, i dont have any minors riding in the car with me. So the real question is what's the next law? no farting in your own car? Anybody care to guess?
Sometimes when I pickup/drop-off people, we sit in the car and talk for a minute while it's on and the seatbelts are off. In previous cars it would only ding maybe 3 times and that was fine. But because the Camry one goes on for so unbelievably long, I had to disable it. My passengers and I always wear our seatbelts though.
