5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ill start off by saying I no little to nothing about cars. Im gettin an 02 Camry from my parents in a month and want to put a little (NOT ALOT) into it to try to get some more hp out of it. Yes I am aware it is only a I4 camry so please don't reply with if you want a faster car go buy a sports car because at this point that is not an option. I heard that the performance chips COULD help but to get the most out off the chips other things would need to be done. I've been looking around for different parts that would help and come up w/ the following: (Yes I no I have duplicate parts from different websites, saved a bunch of links have yet to really go over them or do any in depth research)
Im also wondering which of the above parts if not all are not hard to install for Im beginning an Auto class at school next week and students can bring in there cars to work on along with get help from the teacher. But I am not sure how knowledgeable the teacher is and don't want to end up f***ing something up.
I'm looking for constructive criticism and not someone yelling at me over the internet for not knowing much about cars.
If you want to feel more power just drive around in lower gears.
hahahha good one man!
1. its is an Inline 4, not a V4.
2. i didnt look at the parts that you listed, but i can guarantee you they are not worth the money
3. i strongly suggest that you stick to basic stuff like the TRD air filter like liquidi3ladz said.. if you want, get the TRD axle back exhaust but its a bit pricey for just an axleback($400).
4. since this is your first car and im going to assume you are young, i would go for more aesthetic, useful modifications such as tint, OEM spoiler, rims, lowering springs. these modifications will make a world of a difference.
5. (which should be #1) the search button is your friend.. these threads come up practically every week.
I have a 25hp performance chip I will sell you for $39.95.
Just kidding, Those are all rip off scams....

i'd suggest sticking with the basics of I/H/E. intake, headers and exhaust.
these three will help you squeeze a bit more power from your car. think of it as helping your car breathe and fart better. feeding it premium gas would also help a bit.
better spark plugs, a ground kit and fully synthetic oil for your engine would help smoothen switching gears too.
Install the supercharge for the Scion tC. The engine is the same but it's not direct fit.
Other things you could do would be lightening your car by ditching the spare tire, trunk carpet, back seat cushions, floor mats, jack and other tools in the trunk, rear speakers, rear seatbelts, rear interior panels, remove passenger seat, remove sound deadening from front doors along with door panels, remove carpet, remove all glass and replace with polycarbonate, remove AC compressor, remove PS pump, remove hubcaps if present, remove wiring for components no longer present such as power window wiring and wiring for rear speakers. Then you could swap the hood, trunk lid, and roof with CF replacements.
When you're done with all that, remove your wheels and replace them with BBS Forged Mg REs to reduce unsprung weight.
