Camry PCV Maintenance

Out of all the component systems, how much can you get away with when it comes to the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Valve? Is is really that critical and vital to replace it every year? or every 40K miles?

You can inspect it to make sure that it's working properly. They really are inexpensive, so if you're going to remove it to check it, you might as well just install a new one.

I've never replaced the PCV valve on my Formula and the PCV valve had about 200,000 miles on it when I changed the PCV system to bypass the valve in the intake. It stills works perfectly though.

Routine maintenance really is the key. PCV valves don't actually wear out very quickly. They get dirty, plugged, restricted, stuck, etc. I've never had a problem with one as I change my oil and filter regularly using a high quality motor oil (Mobil 1).

on the 2AZ FE, the PCV valve seems to be screwed into the upper intake and pain to get it out
