Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just picked up my 08 Camry and now it’s time for a new system. Does anyone know a good, reasonable priced installer in Southern California? Here’s my idea. 6-1/2 components in the doors and in the rear with one good 10 or 12 sub in the trunk. Anybody know a good stereo shop.

I don't know of any places. However, I have some input for your install. It's better for imaging to put the tweeter as close to the mid as you can. The separation in the stock setup is great for raising the sound stage but you may have imaging issues.
If you are getting a sub, you may consider removing the rear speakers completely and just getting a good set of components up front along with an amp. Or just get a 4 channel amp for the system and bridge two channels for the sub.
What are you looking at getting?

I don't understand how you see this as a step down. The stock speaker suck. There's no crossover for the speakers; there's only a filter cap for the tweeter.
where in socal are you located? usually if you maps.google.com and search audio shops theres a whole page of listings. if your around the torrance south bay area let me know i have a few places i can recomend to you

+1.
As for shops, like Boricha pointed out, there's a ton to choose from. I would recommend Speakerworks in Orange or Competition Soundworks in Cerritos. Both companies have had award winning cars from car audio mags and sound quality competitions.
Thanks for the advice. I am about 30 min. from Temecula so I will have to look up Cam2Xrunner.
My plan was to put the 6.5 components right next to each other in each of the doors with a bracket of some sort. I think this would be a step up from an 6x9.

PM a member here by the name of Krouchchocolate. He can make you custom 6.5" baffle/adapters made out of mdf for your front doors.
Go to AutoMedia in Corona, CA. I'm good buddies with the owner Bobby. He';s done some high end stuff and has even been featured in one of those car shows on cable.
I get all my wholesale stuff through him. Good to have friends with wholesale accounts!

I usually have pretty good service from Al's and Ed's Auto Stereo. They install.
Went with them on my 1993 accord, 1998 accord, and 2000 accord. Didn't use them for this camry since it came with JBL though..
6x9's are oval shaped. they produce different stresses on the speaker surrounds which could lead to a blown speakers/surrounds
it is the same idea with the kicker solobaric subwoofers. they are square shaped. google solobaric problems and you will see how the uneven stresses cause failure..
