5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Gen 5'ers, did u know that you can change your oil and filter without even jacking your car up? I just did mine today and there was plenty of room to do everything with the car just parked in the driveway. Probably won't work for those of you who have lowered though.
Pardon me if this was something obvious or something everyone already knows, I was just excited to find this out because my jack & jackstand set is crap & gave me a headache every time.
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone uses Esso/Exxon XD-3 synthetic in their camry? I found a supplier in my area with a really good price and i want to give it a try but its only available in bulk. Wondering if the 0w30 XD-3 is a good match for the gen 5 2.4, as if i buy it I'll be stuck with it for a long time.
Esso 0w30 XD-3 is a great oil, but it is not recommended for a GF-4 Application. Esso 0w30 XD-3 is mainly recommended for Mack, Cummins, caterpillar, Vickers,..
just curious, how much do u weigh? i dont know about you, but i sure as hell cant fit under my car without jacking it up or driving it up on ramps.. hell, even when i drive it up on my ramps, its still tight under there

+1... OP must be one skinny guy! or really comfortable in tight spaces... i dunno about you, but i like a little space when i'm working under a car

lol. I'm 6'0 and 215 pounds. I didn't have to actually place my body underneath the car, I just laid on my back on the pavement next to the car, and positioned myself to where I could see the the drain plug. You can reach the drain plug and filter without even stretching. I just reached over, and removed the drain plug, and felt around for the filter (and no I dont have super long arms). It was very easy to do. Next time I do it I'll tape it and post the video.
I've never even considered not jacking the car up because a 5,000 mile service includes an oil & filter change as well as a tire rotation.
I suppose it's easier if you don't actually service your car properly at the recommended intervals.
not sure what you are talking about?
I change my oil every 5000 KM (not miles) and rotate my tires every 10 000 km. I don't know who rotates their tires every single time they change their oil?

Actually, 5000mi is the recommended interval for tire rotation. I rotate mine every time I change my oil as well.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
im weird....i change my oil every 3,ooo miles with mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic and a toyota YZZ-F1 oem filter....i then proceed to rotate my tires every 5k and rotate/balence them every 10k....im a tech so i have acess to all the machienery and i also have a lift i can use after my shift to do all my work

Everyone SHOULD rotate their tires when they change their oil and filter.
As stated above and previously by me, that's the recommended service interval for oil & filter changes with a tire rotation. Going by the recommended service intervals means that you have to lift the car to rotate the tires anyways, every 5,000 miles.
It's very simple, and that's what I'm talking about.

On my 2002 V6 and my 2001 solara, i dont jack it up just to change the oil. Im not particularly skinny but it is no problem to reach the drain plug. Not only is jacking up, at least on my model cars, extra work and totally unecesary but it to me it is alot safer to leave the wheels on the ground too.
I rotate the tires only on the solara, if i rotate them on the camry then the damn thing pulls while in motion so i just leave the tires where they are! I have two floor jacks and i just jack up one side at a time to rotate the tires on the other one.

Can you explain a little more because I don't understand your comment.
So you only rotate the tires on the Solara but not the Camry because the Camry pulls while in motion? Please explain the "because the Camry pulls while in motion".
I'm sorry but I'm confused.

He has a "radial pull" in one of his tires. When he rotates it to the front the car pulls in the direction of the tire with the radial pull. Instead of getting the tire warranteed by the tire manufacturer for "ride disturbance", he is ruining his tires by not rotating them.
Sometimes, cross rotating non-direction tires will also mask the radial pull. Other times, (usually) it just makes the car pull the other way.

Got it. Thanks buddy.
