Car problem

I have a 2005 Camry LE and it suddenly died on me yesterday. I turned on the car again and the RPM's shot up to redline and died again. After waiting about 10-15 minutes, I tried to start the car again and it worked fine. A few blocks later, the RPM's were shifty and went under 1000 where my car died again.

Anyone ever been through this kind of situation and can give me a heads up?

Thanks.

You need to provide A LOT more information if you really want some help over the internet. Be VERY specific.

Engine size? Does it stall at stops? Stall slowing down? On acceleration? At cruising speed? Was the car warm or cold? Manual or automatic?

CEL stands for "check engine light" which as an incorrect way of saying MIL or "malfunction indicator light". Is the MIL on, or does it come on?

I was told that this may result from a bad fuel filter. and/or dirty valves. is this a possibility?

it does not seem to matter how fast I drive for my car not to die on me. as soon as my car dies on me, the steering wheels are locked/stiff and the brakes as well. But when it does die on me, it just dies suddenly/quick instead of having the spuddering feel before it dies. The "CEL" and the battery light come on but when I turn off the car and restart it, only the "CEL" is present.

also, another problem I had faced was when I was driving in a plaza, (5-10mph), when my car suddenly stopped taking in gas. the car was still rolling but when I had depressed the gas pedal, nothing would happen. And as I shift into reverse, my car would jerk real bad.

hope this is sufficient information.

thanks a lot.

Not likely, but you didn't actually say how many miles are on the car.

You still haven't even said what engine you have either.

Being the the MIL is illuminated (not "CEL" as explained in my previous post) there will be a code stored in the computer or ECU. Some auto parts chains will check the codes for free. The code will need to be retrieved in order to have an idea of what is going on.

I doubt that you will be able to complete that task as you still won't answer the questions that were asked of you previously...

If you really do want some help, try helping the people that are willing to help you

Fuel filters RARELY even get plugged anymore. Fuel injected engines have very large canister type filters. It used to be more common with carbs, but not anymore. Unless someone dumped a bunch of sand or other contaminants in your fuel tank, the filter being plugged at your mileage is nearly impossible. Dirty valves come into play about the same amount as well.

Call the nearest auto parts store (Advance, AutoZone, etc) and see who will retrieve the code for you for free. Then post the code here. When you get the code, it would be very helpful if you would look it up in the online manual before you post, and copy the information pertaining to the code with your update.
