Gen6 V6: This is an oil filter?!?!??

Folks,

Well, getting prepared for the first oil change, I popped into my local parts department, and asked for an oil filter for the 08 Camry V6. He hands me what feels like an empty box: 04152-YZZA1. Not a "filter," but an "element kit." Actually, I bought a couple of other things while I was there, and didn't comprehend that this thing was so light until I got home.

At any rate, "is this the real V6 filter??" In other words, just take the guts out of the "permanent" enclosure, and replace the element and the o-rings? Man, this is news to me!

Geez, what a rookie, I know.....

Yes, you only replace some O-rings and the filter media on the V6.

It's been discussed.

Yep, I did an oil change switch over at 500miles. Low and behold what was given to me also. It doesn't take long to realize that all that really needs to be replaced is the core that actually does the filtering. It makes sense now... why replace the housing and other metal parts....

Especially when you consider what most any metal costs these days.

Gee, makes that coupon my dealership sent me for a $28.95 first oil change seem like an even bigger bargain, now...
