Gen6 Tire rotation gone wrong...

So I was rotating my wheels for the first time today on the Camry (front to back and back to front) and when it came time to do my front one this happened.

The threaded pin broke off inside the lug nut. This was just from me using my hands trying to take the wheel off. Is this something that is covered under warranty cause it almost seems like a manufacturing defect that it broke so easily?

yea i would definitely get the dealer involved in it since it seems like a manufacturing issue

Gen6

wow that sucks... I'd try the dealer first. If they won't fix it on their dime save your breath and go to any garage. It isn't that hard to replace it and should not cost a lot. By the way, is their any chance your wheels were over-torqued when installed?

I don't know if they were over-torqued...this was the first time they would have ever been removed. This lug broke when I was trying to remove it.

You only have 5,000 miles on the car?

The dealer should cover it under warranty if that's the case.

I've never seen a stud break on a new Toyota that's never had the wheels off. The cause it usually from someone overtorquing the lug nuts, worn studs/nuts, or cross threading them.

If that's the case, the dealer should warranty it. I don't imagine that they will give you a hard time. It sucks that you have to experience that when the car is so new.

Be sure to use a torque wrench and start the lug nuts by hand when installing them to prevent that in the future.

Factory recommended tire rotations are every 5,000 miles and will GREATLY improve your tire wear.

If you use an impact, a torque stick will help prevent over-torquing, but only use those to install the lugs.

Are you still able to drive it? I may have the same issue as well, where one of the lug nuts seems to have worn out threads. Everytime I try to tighten it, it gets loose.

now thats crazy
i'd get it to a dealer asap and see if its a warrentied part....seems real strange to me , as ive never seen this happen on a newer toyota thats never head the wheels off
usually over torquing or cross threading causes this

its a relativly easy piece to replace, but id try and get it warrentied to save yourself some $ and headaches.

exactly what happenned on my accord.... that lug nuts been mising for a while now and its ok to drive with so dont stress about it too much. if dealer doesnt cover it just go to toyota but that piece and get it installed from a mechanic. its fairly cheap job.

I took it in today and got it replaced under the factory warranty. They didn't even ask me what, when or how...took about 30 minutes.
