5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Now that the weather is better I've started opening the moon roof on my 08 SE and noticed that when I let it slide back automatically that is doesn't open 100%. I would guess it opens 75% and stops. If I want it to open 100% I have to hit the switch a another time. Is that normal?
I stopped by the dealer and asked a service guy and he said it was normal although he wouldn't even walk the 20 feet out to my car to look at it.
on some of the newer toyotas it seems to do this....ive seen it happen on alot of the newer gen 6 camrys...
i have no idea why it does this tho....my gen 5 has one touch and always opens 100%
The roof will open and stop partway 40
mm (1.6 in.) from the fully opened position.
When you push the switch again, the
moon roof will open fully. To stop the roof
partway, push one of the moon roof
switches briefly.
As driving with the moon roof opened fully
will cause wind throbs, we recommend
you to drive with the moon roof partway
40 mm (1.6 in.) from the fully opened

I think that is normal. My 1998 Volvo S70 does the same. I think it is because the shade is on its way.

My VW Jetta did the same thing. You can hear the "wind throbs" with it fully open at higher speeds. I'm pretty sure I read another thread here where somebody said you can go to the dealer and have them do something so that it will open fully the first time. Will try to dig it up and post it here.
Edit: Post #24 if you are interested in having it fully open with one touch.
