Going staggered....how bad is it

I kinda want to go staggered on my rim setup, but from what i've read on the forum it causes understeer. My question is, is it that bad going staggered on a fwd car?

My driving habits are normal. I drive pretty slow unless i am on the highway going from Houston to San Antonio. About 300 miles so i drive about 80 constant. I never drive reckless or take my turns too fast. Will i be fine with a staggered setup with normal driving habits.

Thanks moky for helping me also!

Basically, when you take your car to the limits you should expect your front to break lose before your rears (since your rears have more rubber).

Based on you're description of your driving behavior, you won't even notice a difference.

Also, like peach said, try putting same width tire on all 4 wheels. This will help with the under steer issue.

Same size tires helps a lot. BUT!

Your rear wheels are still spaced out more than the fronts, so you will still understeer a tad bit. Also, your rear wheels is heavier than the fronts, and will cause a shift in weight also leading to other handling issues.

Drive safely and get staggered.

i feels like CRAP

I understeered in my friend's saturn and crashed into a corner couple years ago.

Imagine this. You turn your wheel. Your car keeps going straight. Why?
Your front wheels has lost traction, but your rear wheels still have grip. Its almost a total loss of control.

offset is +35 all around.

rear 19x9.5 wide, fronts 19x8.5 wide.

My rear wheel comes less than a finger away from touching my strut

Limits as in full on track status cornering.

Just think of it this way:
When you understeer you're front tires are losing grip before your rears. By going staggered, and by adding more rubber/grip to the rear, you aren't helping this scenario much.

People look down upon this because the idea is to get you're car to the point of neutrality (no understeer/oversteer).

Based on your driving behavior, I'd say you won't even notice a difference.

For a FWD vehicle, yes.

Staggered is a technique used in the RWD world where the cars tend to oversteer.

yes.

krouchchocolate, understeer has a lot to do w/ ur suspension. on my teins, i take turns at breakneck speed lol. I took a a turn on a freeway going 95, while my friend's Gen4 camry tires were chirping at 70. Tires + suspension matter a lot in understeering, and can help minimize understeer a LOT.

go staggered. its gangster.
