Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
hey all, so instead of going with the se bumper and fog lights... i found a used wonderous body kit, unpainted... (100 bucks) (sold my se bumper cover and fog lights here...)
pretty beat up... lots of sanding and fiber glass repair was necessary...
(side skirts are a little warped, so right now they are strapped to some wood, trying to straighten it out... lol ... )
checked out a few body shops... paint, lowest estimate i got was for 500, and the guy didn't look to trustworthy...
so i said f'it, i'm gonna paint it myself... went out bought a paint gun all the stuff i need etc... (already have an air compressor) everything else including paint cost me about 250... so far... 350 spent all together including the kit..... i still need to get some mesh for the front and a final sand and buff is necessary...
pain in the a... but i enjoyed the experience... as it turns out, not the greatest paint job in the world, but when moving... cant see it right?
so here are some picts of the finished product... (didn't think to take any pictures of the process, but if anyone wants to try some painting themselves, ill answer any question yall might have...)
yes i agree the front is very ricey... but it makes me laugh... but for a hundred bucks... can't complain...
and yes the pain is not blended or matched, i simply got the factory 1c8 paint... (regardless, adding flex material to paint will make it darker, and on a light car it will show, thus i said f'it, don't need to blend... you all know what i'm talking about, even on new/newer cars, the bumpers look a slightly different color... lol...)
the paint job doesnt look that bad.. although i do agree with you on the front. everything is just so BIG. but hopefully the mesh would make it look slightly better.
if the front bumper was recessed inward and had the same layout maybe. Not to fond IMO. Its your car do what you want! Congrats on ur find!

the front is DEFINITELY ricey... but honestly...every time i see it i laugh... can't help it, it's just funny to me... but then again so does the knight rider light...
i like the rear and the sides a lot... kind of gives it the vip look... from the rear, it looks mercedes ish.... i think the spoiler adds a nice little touch... very subtle... (unlike the front)... lol....
the front... screams rice!! ha ha ha... doesn't help that i'm asian either...
also, the front doesn't look so big with the side skirts on it... but when i did my dry fitting of the side skirts... it was warped, so it wasn't going to install right... so i left it off for now... like i said, strapped to some wood.... i do wish the front was A LOT more subtle... and kind of stuck with the rest of the body kit look, but alas....
but for me it was more about learning to paint, and have a little project... so far this has only taken me two saturdays... and i figure, maybe a couple more weekends to get the whole thing done... 1 more saturday for the final sanding and buffing... and 1 saturday to install the side skirts whenever they get straight...
but yeah, maybe i'm trying to relive my younger teenage years... never had a rice rocket.. ha ha ha....

The increase in frontal area will certainly slow the car down and decrease mileage. The rear bumper will also work well as a parachute. Not to mention that it looks ricey.
I am not a fan of that huge front air ram either but, hey, you explained well that you liked the project and learned something. Bravo for trying something new. So, why not. Just finish it up the way you planned it, put the grille inserts in and take a pic from another angle. I think the fact that you took the pic from front and low makes it look even bigger.
Put some really wide wheels on, camber them and it comes more together. Just have fun with it the way you had it until now...and if it turns out you really don't like it at the end, you can always take it off again.
PS: I am not proud of the guys above simply barfing and bashing on somebody's work and your honesty and willingness to share it with us. You guys need to be more tolerant!
PS2: I rather read such posts and ideas than reading likes aka explaining rims spec, HID installation, AC discussions, same suspensions questions etc etc

I don't think anyone was trying to make you proud. Nobody bashed on his work, just his choice of the kit.
I stated my opinion, it wasn't a personal attack. Lighten up. If you don't like reading other people's opinions, don't.
You need to be more tolerant. Your horse is a little bit too high. After all, the OP stated:

Props to the OP for the DIY though. Doing something else would have been better.

TRD VVTi, I like to read your posts when you answer technically questions - you appear very knowledgable. But I am not sure why you start picking endless, meaningless fights lately....shall I link some? Calm down, take it easy and yes, your note was bashing and not just an opinion of like or dislike.
PS: Don't even start, I want get into a meaningless fight with you like you appear to have fun looking at other threads.

Start? Mind your own business. You don't need to start whining about other people's opinions.
