5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well a couple of weeks ago, my girlfriend crashed her 99 Acura TL, airbags went off and all. Thankfully she was ok and wasnt hurt besids a few scrapes here and there. Anyways, shes been driving my camry around sometimes whenever she needs it to go to work. Since her parents are loaded they offered to buy her a car. So she started looking at 04-05 Acura TL's. We shopped around and found a nice white 05 Tl fully loaded with only 48,000 for 22,000. We talked the dealer down to 20,000 and got it. Today was her first day driving the car to work and i must say, im a little jealous. i didnt really get a chance to put the car through its paces but i must say pretty impressed. Now my camry is only a few months old, V6 fully loaded minus the Nav, which now that i think about it i should of got, but really tight on any extra money. Have any of you raced any TLs? How fast are they and how do they compare with Camry Se? Handling wise i noticed camry is slightly better at cornering than the TL.
luxury vs economic.... need i say more? you'd really have to take hard turns to see how much better the tl handles vs your se. the handling for that generation is good, better on the a-spec. i feel much more confident with them than the camry se. the regular tl is not quick, the type-s is. if she is loaded why doesn't she just get the newest tl instead of used? my gf has an NSX, i wonder how it compares to my kia rio
Yea your right about luxury vs economic. Its basically comparing Toyota with Lexus. I would of never dreamed of buying a camry, but the new V6 SE really impressed me. I got a hell of a deal on it and been really happy with it so far. What is your girlfriend doing driving around a NSX? Hopefully by the middle of the week she will get over the new car thing and switch cars with me for the day, so i can really get a feel for it. Driving around town was nice, the ride was comfortable and quiet, the sound system is top notch and the NAV is nice. She just needs to get some tints and the car will be mint. She did mention she liked my camry acceleration better than her TL.

Cant afford one now man, im barely able to pay for the Camry. Im thinking after i graduate from college that i trade the camry in for a BMW 335 twin turbo or Lexus IS-F. But thats a couple of years away.
Without a doubt the TL is quieter. My camry is so loud when it his under 30 degrees F. And even when its warm outside i still get the occasional rattling noise when going over a bumpy road, on the highway the camry is pretty quiet.

In my area TL's are traded in for Camrys just about 2 or 3 month.

I can kind of see that happening because of the cost issue. You can get a fully loaded V6 SE for about 29,000 to 30,000, or the XLE V6. But i see alot more TL's around boston than i do camrys. Every once and a while i would see a SE on the highway, but alot more LEs and XLEs around towns and boston. TLs are just so expensive but in a way your getting a solid built car without all the little issues that the camrys are having with flare issues and dashboard noise. Again its the difference of Toyota and Lexus and Honda/Acura, even nissan/infinite.
Where you shifting manually? or did you leave it in drive the whole time. I find when i up-shift off the line i get a better jump.
yes i was manually shifting and so was he.

when TL's first came out they had quite few issues too and I believe they had tranny problems.
