5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
If you were to trade-in your Camry, what would you like to get in return? I may be trading mine in this year but not sure what to go for. I was looking at BMW's 550 and Lexus' GS460/LS460. I heard BMW got some good deals on pre-owned vehicles.

I drive a Toyota myself, and respect the company very much. However, I still think Lexus vehicles are just glorified Toyotas and just aren't at the level of BMW or Benz.
Yes, yes...Lexus fanboys will now swarm onto me saying how Lexus vehicles have much better build quality, don't break down, etc, etc. True, but in the several times I've tried driving a Lexus, I just never felt any connection to the car - nothing that would make me say "wow, I want this".
Whereas with a BMW, Benz or some Audis, that "charm" exists.

in response to yazovets, i can understand where you are coming from when you mentioned the "connection". lexus cars can be quite boring to drive sometimes. it doesnt have the stiffness and i guess (my experience) "rough edges" a bimmer or an audi has that would compel you to drive in a more aggressive manner and go "wow, i want this!"
personally, i find the bmw and audi vehicles a bit more fun and engaging to drive than the lexus. i recall when i was 17, driving the m5 made me go "son of a...". it was stick too. it felt more solid and personally quite a bit more of an enthusiast's car. the lexus on the other hand, while it has neat gadgets and highly advanced technological wizardry, still is an easy drive (today's lexus) and i can see how it can lose the connection between driver and car. i cant say the same for the older SC400 and is300 which when tuned properly also felt a little bit more..."fun".
and yes, in japan, lexus and toyota still are very much just the same. the emergence of lexus in japan has been present for maybe just a few years. glorified toyotas, yes. pretty much the same as infiniti IS nissan, acura IS honda. as for the germans...BMW IS BMW, BENZ IS BENZ, AUDI IS AUDI.

I guess it really depends on what you want. BMW's, Mercedes, Audi's are built for performance, compared to a Lexus that is built for superior ride quality and comfort......

I'd say go with the Lexus LS, Bimmers will become POS after 3 yrs.
Aint that the truth. My Girfriends grandma has a 03 M3, and that is the crappiest, most rattling, horrible riding car ive ever driven.

I would choose Lexus GS (compared to BMW 5-series) for the ride quality and car reliability. If I wanted more of a performance car, then it would be a tossup between a Lexus IS and a BMW 3-series (I especially love the 335ci hardtop convertible), but at this stage of my life I would rather have the comfort.
