5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Does it piss off any other Gen Six (in particular) SE owners, with their rides decked out in a sports trim with the sideskirts, fog lamps, tint and such, that when tooling down the road or ridin' on the freeway, the vehicle seems to get no respect from other drivers?
Sure, I've had a few people say "nice car" at washes and stuff, but for the most part, just no one gives a shit that the ride is brand new, shiny and decked out with chrome and all; especially these truck drivers in huge, jacked up pickups...just today, I was driving out to a lawyer's office for an issue my girl had to take care of, and as soon as I began to merge onto the highway here in Vegas, I noticed a new white G35 sedan on my ass who couldn't wait to get around me once the freeway came in -- then he speeds into the middle lane like at 100 at least and flies away from everyone else, leaving me in my pittiful little 08 SE V6 feeling "unappreciated" if you know what I mean. But this goes on all day out here; people speeding and coming off the lines at red lights when they turn green like banshees out of hell, attempting to blow me and my SE into the weeds at every single chance they get.
I feel because my ride isn't "customized" enough that these assholes simply have no respect for the ride and so they blow past it without a care in the world -- do you guys whose Generation Sixes are completely tricked out get the same lack of respect experience?
By the way, speaking of the G35, I saw a brand new G37 coupe today --- WOW that ride is hot....
Everyone stares at my camry lol. Even when I go to the market or bank, regular oldies ask about my car. If only I had the v6 to back up the looks rofl.
and for the post right above me, i don't think he got the camry for looks too. I mean, with that money, he could've gotten something a lot flashier and a bit faster. Probably got the sportpackage as any other owner does, for individuality. Like how BMW offers sportpackages with the blue, and it looks 10x better than cars without, but it doesn't really stand out. He got the sportpackage/color so his car could look 10x better, but not necessarily to stand out.
just my 100 dollars and 2 cents

Wow...I wish I had that kind of reaction; perhaps it's because I live in a place where Maseratis, Ferraris and Lambourghinis are everyday appearances in the local parking lot...

Huh? I don't understand what you're saying here...he did NOT buy an SE for looks?

But isn't that the point of these packages?
You do realize some people are just assholes, and that it has nothing to do with what you're driving...
I guess...
Furthermore, did you buy the car for yourself or for everyone else?
Why so eager to gain everyone's acceptance?
It's not really about that per se, just trying to justify the added expense of all the extra styling cue equipment in that if the point was not to turn heads and gain a bit of "curb appeal," then what was the point?
To some yes. To some others, individuality? Theres a bunch of reasons why people get what they do. For instance.
My mother got her car in a bright color, because she wanted to distinguish her car from the others at the supermarket (seriously lol)
Most people will get it because its not that common and etc. Plus, the camry will not get respect from a lot of people cuz.
1) Its a camry.
2) most people are not car guys like us. almost 90% of the population can't tell the difference between a Camry SE and a Camry CE. Shoot, they can't even tell the difference between the Camry and the Accord.

*Sigh* I suppose I can accept this...thanks Peach...
You're right about most people not even knowing the difference between an SE and CE....
thats true about most people not knowing the diff between SE vs CE/LE/XLE
i parked next to a XLE, same color as mines... my friend came up and compares my car vs XLE he said mines looks better, but when we asked this other girl what she thought she didnt see the difference
I get all kinds of great comments about my bone-stock Barcelona Red SE V6:
Lots of compliments, all the time.
Heck, and on the freeway, I've seen more fast-lane-blockers get out of my way with this red SE than I've ever seen with any other car. It's been great!
You bought a shiny, bright Blue Ribbon METALLIC vehicle with sporty cues so it WOULDN'T stand out? That's what you're telling me?
tl/dr means "too long/ didn't read", I meant it with jovial sarcasm, my friend. I think you have the other perspective is incorrect though. No, I did not buy it to "stand out". I like blue. I ordered blue. Wow, no mystery there. A coincidence that it is one of the better looking hues, yep, lucky me. That is a matter of personal preference. Also, the SE has stock front and rear anti-sway bars, fogs, different headlights, and those neat-o 17" alloys. All a matter of which I preferred over the other trims. I did not buy it for anyone else, I bought it for me. Yes, it is appealing, but appealing to me. I did not buy it to appeal to anyone else. Every one has their own opinion on these sorts of things (see the bmw vs. lexus thread).
