i seafoamed my camry (tips inside)
well i finally did it, and it all went smoothly, no engine dying on me, no CELs or any other issues... the only surprises were how slowly you have to put it in the vacuum line and there was much less smoke than i anticipated, probably a testament to how well maintained my car is... anyway here are a couple tips if you're considering seafoam...
1. if you're not sure which vacuum line to use, look for a smaller vacuum line that goes from the engine to the throttle body... the location may vary depending on what model camry you have, but they should all have such a vacuum line no matter what engine (on the 1MZ vvt-i, this line happens to have a braided cover on it, but i wouldn't know about the 2MZ or the 2GR).
2. you want to disconnect the vacuum line where it connects to the ENGINE, so that the seafoam enters the throttle body by means of the vacuum... if you do however disconnect it at the wrong end, you should know because you won't have a vacuum in the hose as the throttle body is where the vacuum comes from.
3. when you do allow the seafoam to enter the vacuum line, let it enter very slowly so that you do not hydrolock the engine... do not submerge the vacuum hose into the container of seafoam, place the hose above the top of the liquid so it enters very slowly (i poured the seafoam in an 8 oz. coup and placed the hose above the level of liquid)... i noticed it takes very little to over do it and kill the engine as i could hear the RPMs rising when it sucked the seafoam faster... the way i did it, i let it take over a minute to suck all 8 oz. of seafoam up... again, let it go in very slowly and you'll be fine.
4. it's up to you, but personally i put half of the seafoam in the throttle body, and poured the other half in the fuel tank... i wouldn't recommend adding any to the motor oil as motor oil already has detergents in it, and adding seafoam will only thin out the motor oil, necessitating an immediate oil change, but hey it's up to you.
basically that's what i did, let it sit 5-10 minutes, then either rev it in park or drive it around the block... any other questions i'd be happy to answer...
