5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey to all, I have a 04 SE with 3.3..It already has the stock rear sway bar on it, I would like to "tighten" it up. Are there replacement polyurethene bushings I can buy for this application and if anyone has done this will it make a difference? thanks in advance, CSM-H
I'm not aware of application specific bushings but I'm sure Energy Suspension, Performance Suspension Technology, Prothane, etc. will have bushings that will work. You may have to fit them to the bracket.
Poly bushings will help slightly with the handling but the gain will be negligible at best with a factory bar.
Note, this will not "tighten" the car as you state. The Camry as already way too tight (understeers).
TRD VVTi, ok then, I had forgot the names of the suspension companies, I will check them out. What would the TRD RSB do in this application if I added it? thanks, CSM-H

The TRD RSB will keep the rear of the car flatter allowing the front to roll over on it's suspension better and push the outside front tire down harder. This will help with understeer. The part number is PTR02-06041-01.
Of course, I personally don't have the equipment to test a hypothesis that I have, but I think the LE front bar would also help lessen the understeer. That's why I will not be swapping my LE front sway bar for an SE front sway bar when I install the TRD RSB. I am also taking into account that I have the TRD springs which have a higher spring rate. With a higher spring rate you actually won't need as much sway bar to accomplish the same level of performance.

Actually, the poly bushings will have less deflection which will allow the bar to function with more precision. It's a slight help, but not great.
Poly bushings are better than rubber for the same reason STB's are helpful. They both reduce deflection.
thanks for the response....for the few bucks it's gonna cost I may just try the bushings and then If I buy the TRD, I'll have an extra set...thanks for the responses, CSM-H

i reccomend the TRD RSB if you want to keep the rear of the car flatter and reduce body roll...i have an SE with TRD rear sway bar, energy suspension poly rear sway bar bushings, and TRD springs and it handles great but is much stiffer than stock, so bumps are much more noticible, but still the car has a smooth ride on good roads. There also isnt much bump steer either, much to my suprise.
i still say the TRD rsb and poly bushings are a good add on. def worth the money

^ where did you get the bushings, and do you have a part number? been looking for some for a while...! it seems like the energy suspension website shows nothing for the 02 - 06 camry's... so i assume you used a universal bushing?
