Gen5 maintenence light question? (not what you think)

so im well aware that the maintenece light flashes every 4500 miles or whatever and im aware of how to use the search for the code to turn it off. my question is, does the maintenece light only pertain to oil? it has been flashing for a few days and ive just been to lazy to look up the reset code. the oil is good to go. but today i broke the 50k mile mark and now the maintenence light is on constantly and not flashing. btw i dont have a owners manual.

are you talking about the check engine light? it can be number of things that might cause it to go on, including bad sensors etc etc...

that is why people tell you to go check what it is... go to autozone... they read it for free... there is no way anyone here can help you...

what maintenance light? You must be refering to the Engine Check light.

The maintainance light is soley on to warn you to change your oil... I do not think it has the ability to tell when you hit 50k and need a more comprehensive tune-up...

maintenance light is purely for the oil only. at 4500 miles it starts flashing, at 5000 miles it turns solid. if you changed or had the oil changed recently, then you have nothing to worry about it... just reset it properly next time.

If you want to reset the light by yourself instead of going to the dealership it isn't hard to do. depending on the year if its 07 or 08, you will want to turn the car to the run position with out starting the car and make your milage display either read "ODO" or or "trip A" again depending on year it will determin which setting you need to have it on, but you will follow the same steps reguardless. now that you have the milage on the correct setting turn the car all the way off and hold in the botton used to change between odo, tripA and tripB, while holding the botton down turn the key forward to the run position keep holding the button down you should see dashed lines replacing where the milage usually would be once the dashes disapear and the milage reaprears let go of the botton start the car and the light should be reset. if you did this and the dashes did not show up try again using whichever setting you did not use, either trip A or ODO. hope this helps

my bad i see yours is a 5th gen so it will be the "ODO" setting for sure!!!

I'm wondering why the above posters think that the maintenance light is only for oil.

It's a 5,000 mile service reminder. That's why it comes on at 5,000 miles.

full service? it's a oil change and tire rotation, i can do it in my damn backyard in 20 minutes. i do it every 5000 because if something goes wrong with my car that isnt my fault, toyota could void a warranty for not servicing at scheduled intervals. and it is important for the OP to get it done because more is involved with the sched. maint. the more miles you have. on older cars the oil is supposed to be changed every 3000 so i dont really see any reason not to do it every 5000.

unless youre just lazy

I'm guessing most do their "full" 5,000 mile service. After all, it's basically an oil change, tire rotation, and a basic inspection.

Let's really be honest...

...you're misinformed.
