Sunroof Closing problem

My 2005 Camry is now having a problem when you close the sunroof it starts to close but as soon as it hits the wind deflector it changes direction and opens back up.

A little bit of help on how to adjust or lube etc. would be great.

check the tracks and make sure something isnt stuck in there and blocking the roof from closing...
if not, the track might be bad,...theyre a pain to replace as well and are very expensive fixes, as ive replaced one at work for the same issue...

I will look at the tracks.

One thing that I forgot to mention is if you push down the wind deflector just a little bit the window will close just fine.

If it's like the Gen6, it might just need to re-initialized.

Use the Search function......

SLIDING ROOF REPAIR TIPS
Models:
’02 – ’06 Camry
Technical Service
BULLETIN
November 12, 2003
TSB REVISION NOTICE:

December 12, 2005: 2006 model year has been added to Applicable Vehicles.
The reset procedure for TMMK-built models has been standardized so that Reset
Procedure 1 is no longer used when the negative (–) battery terminal is disconnected
and/or the “PWR No. 1” fuse is removed. Instead, Reset Procedure 3 will be used.

October 4, 2004: An additional Reset Procedure No. 4 has been added. Reset
Procedure No. 4 corrects the issue of the moon roof (sliding roof) glass assembly
reversing direction when the glass assembly makes contact with the wind deflector
during the “slide close” cycle. Introduction, Reset Procedure Applicability, and Repair
Tips sections have been revised. Applicable Vehicles now includes 2004 and 2005
model years.
All previous versions of this TSB should be discarded.
TSB UPDATE NOTICE:
The information contained in this TSB supercedes TSB No. BO002-03.
TSB No. BO002-03 is now obsolete and should be discarded.
The sliding roof system must be reset if the following occurs:

Pop noise when tilting up or down.

Glass tilt opening too high.

Does not stop in a fully closed and level position.

Glass assembly reverses direction when it contacts wind deflector during
“slide close” cycle.
The information in this bulletin supplements the sliding roof system reset information in
the 2002 – 2006 Camry Repair Manuals.

When the battery negative (–) terminal is disconnected or PWR No. 1 fuse is removed

4. Confirm “one-touch slide open and close” and “one-touch tilt up and down” functions
by pushing the switch briefly to the “SLIDE OPEN” and “TILT UP” sides.
NOTE:
See Repair Tips section below.
1. Tap control switch to fully close moon roof.
2. Remove dome light assembly (forward of moon roof).
3. With battery connected and ignition “ON,” disconnect wire harness to moon roof ECU
and wait at least 15 seconds.
4. With ignition “ON,” reconnect wire harness to ECU.
5. With ignition “ON,” press and hold “TILT UP” button until glass assembly shudders
or makes a click sound. After the glass assembly shudders or clicks, release
“TILT UP” button.
NOTE:
If glass does not shudder or click, then ECU memory was not erased. Repeat steps 1
through 5 until unit shudders or clicks.
6. Within 5 seconds of releasing “TILT UP” button (end of step 5 above), press and hold
“TILT UP” button again. Glass assembly will go through 1 cycle (glass will tilt down,
slide to fully opened position, then slide to fully closed position).
7. As soon as the glass is fully closed, release “TILT UP” button. All functions are
now reset.
8. Reinstall dome light assembly.
The Repair Manual provides a reset procedure according to the plant where the vehicle
was produced. TMC Camry VIN starts with “J.” TMMK Camry VIN starts with “4.”
1. If the reset procedure does not remedy the condition, then reset again. Disconnect
the sliding roof harness from the sliding roof motor and wait for 3 – 5 minutes.
NOTE:
The sliding roof system must be reset each time the battery is disconnected.
2. If the glass parks in an over-flush or under-flush position with the roof:
A. Move the glass to the flush position by quickly tapping the switch.
B. Reset the system according to Repair Tips 1, 2, and 3 above.

To anybody:
Do you have or can describe a moonroof reset reset procedure that worked for you?. I have an '02 SE and the moonroof doesn't sit flush with the roof when closed. The dealer did it for me a year a go for a fee but won't tell me how to do it myself. I have the reset Tech Service Bulletin B021-03 but I can't figure out how to remove the dome light assembly so I can remove power to the moon roof ECU. I have tried pulling down the front, sides, rear all very hard but it won't drop down. There are no visible screws. Help please!
Bob

Are you not smart enough to read the procedure posted in post #5????

If not, take it to the dealer again.

Read it yourself. I have read post #5 and it is loaded with typo's and incorrect sequences and was a feeble attempt to copy the TSB BO021-03 technical service bulletin that I already have a copy of myself. Reset Procedure 3 doesn't work and Procedure 4 requires removal of the dome light assembly. And if you read my post it was primarily asking for the technique to remove the dome light assembly. Thanks for being an ass.

With 3261 posts, he should get a life rather than being a wiseguy. Thanks for the headsup.
