Hello everyone. First post on the forums but ive been lurking for a little while.
I ordered a 2009 Camry SE last month (2/21/08) and im still waiting for it to come in. The guys at the dealership told me the way Toyota does special orders is they shutdown the production of stock Camrys for a day or two to pump out all the special orders they have. My dealership had no clue when they would shutdown to do the special orders. Is this true? Seems kind of strange they would run that way.
On a side note. Love the forums here. It's always nice to check out the pics you guys put up!
All I did was add the VSC, a moonroof, the spoiler and I wanted cloth seats which is the reason I had to order I think. In our region (the Midwest) they told me that SEs come with leather and to get cloth I had to special order. Im not a fan of the seat warmers and very hot and very cold leather aren't my thing.
Im really hoping they get it to me by the end of April at least!

Thats weird mine came with everything you listed minus the vsc. how long ago did you place the order. I mean it is the 09 but they have been ariving for a little while now.
I just ordered my 2009 Camry SE V6. I work for Toyota and can tell you the following:
If they did a straight order then it will takes 8 weeks from the date of order.
If they did a preference request on an existing allocated vehicle then it will take about four weeks.
My Camry was a preference request and the EWP (Estimated Week of Production) is 03/31. I expect the car to be delivered in mid to late April.
They should be able to see the EWP in Dealer Daily. What is special about the order? Most special items are actually port installed options and are not even installed at the factory.
Mine is a special order, which is not commonly ordered, but I have not heard of "shutting down" production for special orders.
EDIT: They can order a SE without leather by leaving off the QC package, which is the Sport Leather package. That should take no longer than 8 weeks as described.
I may be able to look this info up for you if you send me the info on your order.
To me, it doesn't seem like what I ordered should be that special of an order. Im pretty sure they make what I ordered for other regions. I posted what I ordered up a few posts.
Ill see if I can get some info from the dealership and get back to you.

PM the color and major options. I also need to know the name of the dealership. I can look it up from home tonight.
My family had ordered a custom BMW 330i back in the day. That was actually built in Germany, shipped by boat to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Then, by truck transport is finally made it to Toronto, Ontario.
All this happened in just 3 months and the car WAS actually special and it DID come from the other side of the globe.
How can Toyota possibly need 2 months to deliver a new car within the same continent?!

I kinda assumed that was a bunch of crap...but had to be sure!
I also work for Toyota and can't wait tell the guys on Monday about this one. The bad thing is dealerships already have a bad rep and with stuff like this it does not make it better.
I found the car. The order has been approved and the vehicle is in allocated Status. The estimated production week is 4/7.
Here are the options and information I have:
CF FE RF SR VS
Black w/ Dark Charcoal Sport Fabric
MSRP: $27,714
About four weeks from the week of 4/7 the car should be at the dealership.
They are telling you the truth. It is not in the system as a preference request so that means it takes 8 weeks. It is about 4 weeks to get a spot in the production line and then 4 between being built shipped.
EDIT: Toyota works on a allocation system. Special requests take 8 weeks and that is the entire story. The dealership you bought the car from does not have a previously allocated vehicle to "change" to your specs. Toyota does not build the Camry SE V6 with cloth seats by default. They ALL have leather.
Every region has a production guide that shows each model and what option combinations they are building. Checkout buyatoyota.com for the option combos in your region. In turn, if you order outside a standard combo you go to the end of the line. You can only cut in the production line if the dealer was already allocated a Camry SE V6 and was willing to submit a change request. If approved, you get that spot in line.
