5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So I just got my 08 red Camry SE tinted today and I get the feeling it's too dark in the front. Not sure how tint is supposed to be referred to but here goes.... Basically all the windows (with the exception of the windshield) have been tinted to 20% light allowance (not sure if that should really be referred to as 80% light reduction). The shop told me that it looks darker because it's on a red car but I'm still a bit worried.
What do you think I should do. I do like the look, however I would like to stay within the confines of the law. I could leave it and hope for the best or perhaps I could take it back and have them remove the 2 front window tints and redo them at 35% (or 65% light reduction). Is this easy or would it be a huge problem?
I haven't had any trouble on the road yet but who know's.....
By the way, I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada if it helps any. I will try to upload pics tomorrow.
The legal limit in the province of Ontario for the front windows is 35% - so your front windows are technically illegal and you could run into problems with cops. If you don't like the look and think they are too dark, tell the installer they need to redo the front windows as they aren't abiding by the law (and they know the legal limits).

I have 30 in the front and 20 in the back (and I am not legal either in NY). I think in general 20 is okay even in the front, just a touch dark at night, but doable. Up to you. As wetherburner stated, the bigger problem might be the law officers, i.e. 20 looks very dark from the outside especially on a bright car color, i.e. you are easily spotted and pulled over. Nobody bothers me with my 30 on the black car...at least until now.
Since you already got it done i would keep it at the level it is until someone stops you for it. if you're willing to take that risk...
20% is pretty dark, i plan on going 35% all around when i get it done. Some guys on here don't think that mixing tint on front and rear dont look good, but that's all personal preference. I don't tihnk it looks that bad but, i guess it's all in the eyes of the beholder
good luck, cant wait to see pics!

I don't think it's a big problem to fix and I agree, you'll probably be OK with the cops. The bigger issue however is your safety while driving, especially at night. If you feel your visibility is hampered during evening driving, you should get the fronts redone to 35%. Everyone's eyesight is different, so only you can be the judge of that - and funnily enough, night time driving only gets harder with each passing year ...
Good luck and post some pics when you have a chance.
I'll drive it for a few days and see what happens. If I do decide to redo the tint, is that a difficult job to remove or is it pretty straight forward?
Don't worry about it, leave it! My window tinter says 20% is the way to go. My rear is limo, and the sides are 20%. You'll only be pulled over if you're driving stupid. My tint actuall got me out of a stop sign ticket once! I pleaded that I had just got a seat belt ticket in my "route" truck, and he actually had sympathy and gave me a tint ticket instead of a $400.00 stop sign ticket. I paid the $124.00 instead messing up my truck! They ONLY want your $$$$$$$.!

Should be easy for the shop to do it. Nothing special, everybody who wants to renew old tint needs to get that done.
ask peach how he can drive at night - hahaha - with double limo tint.
I somehow got used to it. Its just. Everytime I back out, I have to open my front windows. Even before that, I have to walk around my car to see how much space I have. When I'm driving and switching lanes (at night), I judge by the headlights. If the cars behind me or the side have no headlights, then they're pretty much screwed lol.

I think we all know your next mod - 360 degree camera on the roof!
....and one underneath the car that you can see the bumps you can't master with your super low ass car .
