5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
i know there are alot of threads about MPG's but i did some kind of experiments. here are my results
100 % city driving with upto 3,000 rpm shift i got 29 miles per gallon. i go to work back and forth for 29.4 miles a day and i only used 1.015 gallons,
in another test i drove aggresively (that means going upto 5500 RPM) and really stopping hard. i got 22.3
it really depends how you drive! do you guys get the same? i have I4 stock with steal wheels. do you think if i go alloy i'll get better mileage. plus i use chevron with techtron. they say its more gas efficient.

It's common knowledge that driving habits have a huge impact on fuel mileage.
I'm not sure about how much the weight difference is between factory steel wheels and aluminum. The lighter wheel and tire assembly will get you better fuel mileage.
I often remove excess weight for increasing of both mpg and performance. For example, i have no use for the rear seat, the passenger seat, the spare tire, or the windshiled washer bottle for example. Youd be surprised how much performance is gobbled up by these useless frilly items.
Furthermore i make a point to remove all other unused items and things i can do without, so my car has no radio, no ac, no power steering as i figure my arm muscles will also get a workout thus doing double duty. And after sawing off the unused portion of the crankshaft pulley it saved another.598 of a pound. I also empty my pockets and make sure to throw up before i enter the car to save even more weight.
by doing this my mileage has gone from 27.6892333 to 28.109911. Translation: SAVINGS!
I drive 80% on the interstate at 83-84 MPH, and don't see as good mileage as if I was driving at 70 MPH, simply because of aerodynamic drag created. However, I get to my destination faster.
oh thats on the 29.4 miles. turned out i used something close to 1.015 gallons.. well maybe you just have some white things on your head thats called dandruff! LMAO! well im glad i discovered this thread! im a new gen 6 I4 owner just want to compare horses with horses...
