Gen6 Reverse Wire Color and Location???

Well im trying to install an aftermarket navigation system and need to hookup the reverse wire. I tried to search and i find different answers and not one directly for a Gen6 (2008) Camry.

What color is the reverse wire?
Where is the reverse wire located?

Thanks for looking and hopefully i can get it figured out soon

Gen6

It should be at the transmission selector reverse switch.

Red in, Pink out.

Isn't that what your Service Manual shows??????????????????????????

This is from the instructions I used when I installed my factory unit.
The connector they are talking about is located behind the glove box.
Hope this helps.

Connect the REVERSE Signal (Camry Gasoline
Vehicle):
Locate connector AE3 and find pin 6. Please see the
photo on the left for the location and below for the
connector view. Once pin 6 is located, you will notice that
the wire is coloured GRAY (REVERSE SIGNAL). For
further information, please consult with the TOYOTA
Camry Electrical Wiring Diagram.

I did the same thing for my Pioneer Z2 in my 07 SE. Just tapped the reverse light wire, so when I put my car in reverse, the back up cam comes up.

This may be a dumb question but hooking up the reverse wire would only be for using a back-up cam, correct? I just installed an AVN-6620 in my 09 SE w/JBL and do not plan on using a b/u cam.

Does anyone know which wire to tap to change the illumination when the headlights come on? Yes I used the SEARCH but didn't find anything.

Thanks Profuse007. I found the red reverse wire. I've probed every black wire near the fuse box and no juice in anywhere when I turn the parking/headlights on. Any pointers?

I may try an add-a-fuse off the tail lights and run that to the illumination wire as a very last resort.

I think the easiest place to get this wire is at the bottom of the drivers kick panel.. it is a red wire that will show 12v when put into reverse..

that way you dont have to run a wire all the way back to the reverse lights..

if your looking for the wire to make your radio dim when you turn your lights on.. you should use the green wire at the radio harness.. it is the thinner gauge of the 2 green wires.. it is the one that is "darker green" opposite corner of the thicker light green wire..

it should go 12v when u turn on your lights.

Most have both positive and negative.. gen 6 camrys also have both.. however the "Positive" parking light wire in the camry connects to a relay that rests at ground(this is pretty uncommon).. so it can only be used for an "Input" to a device.. if you tried to turn on the parking lights with that wire you could pop a fuse.

Let me know if you guys have trouble finding any of the wires... Good luck!

Thanks rob1218 but I used the green wire w/silver dashes that goes to the seat heater connector in the center console. Works great.

Azngotskills, found mine under the driver's door sill in the bundle of wires. Small red wire.
