Gen5 I Upgraded My 03 Se Ecu!

hey guys,
ive only posted a couple things but they are meaningful and quite useful with information so here is another one.

so i have been working on some engine mods for my 03 camry se and yes its the 4 banger but i wanted to make the camry something that u dont see everyday so its my project. bash on it if you want to but i think itd be fun and im sure most of you want to do some stuff to your engine as well.

so i have an injen intake and obx header which needed to be modified to install.i also have a 2 1/4 exhaust on there wit a resonator and a nice quite muffler so it sounds stock but nice power gains. of course no cat duue to the obx header but the secondary one is there.

so to the point..there is this place in huntington beach called jet performance! www.jetchip.com is the site and they do a ecu upgrade kit. i said ok if i have all those mods and my ecu is running at factory im not going to gain shit. i called them and took it down since i live in socal and 430 bucks later and 2 hours later my ecu was done. i had my buddy take me home since the car wont work without the ecu and i reinstalled it.

HOLY SHIT! the difference is EXTREMELY noticeable. usually when people dsconnect their battery the ecu has to relearn ide right? not anymore..that went away. my check engne light from the cat being gone is now off as well and there is a huuuuuge power gain. so thats that.

if you want some power gains with the mods u have u HAVE to change reglash the ecu anyways to gain some power cus without that its a waste since ur ecu is runing stock but ur trying to suck in more air and push more with the header but ur ecu is just not gonnna go over the limit.

you tell them what mods u have and they modify the ecu to what u have on ur car. bone stock applications gain 14hp at the wheels and 8lbs of torque..with the mods i have i gained so much more than that. ill dyno it soon.

so check em out. they are super nice. i even called to praise them for their service. turn around time i believe is 2 or 3 days cus they do overnight shipping if ur not in california or near by. so no car for 2 or 3 days if u dont have the ecu in but its worth it id say.

cheers!

sorry this was so long but im stoked.

not really. they totally customized it. its not a chip. there is no chip applications for a camry anywhere so i had it reflashed then they tuned it to my specifications.

Is there anyone who doesn't know of JetChips? How many know that ECU upgrades on a N/A car are nearly worthless. That said, with intake and exhaust you will get some gains...but why Jet Chip, if I may ask. I'm assuming you for the module upgrade, not V-Force or anything?

the v force is just piggy backing and does not modify ur ecu the way i need it to be. the gains are dyno proven and only 2 hp. opposed to 14lbs at the wheels. more hp if you have modifications. just trust me its a big diff

You can FEEL the difference?

If you gained 20 HP and the Camry weighed 3,400 lbs, that's a difference of .0058823 HP/LB.

Noticeable?

i've heard about jet performance in huntington beach before. it's a 'ecu reflash' right and not a chip?

show us some dyno results please. i remember seeing a dyno on their website and in their shop.

I can understand doing everything you can to get the most power out of what you have. Many of us have done the same thing.

Honestly though, I can see spending $430 for a few horsepower. Any car can gain more power with an aftermarket tune. Factory or not. It just depends on what you're looking for, or what you really want.

I recently read an article where a magazine tested 12 different programmers and their gains. On a car with well over 300 HP the gains averaged about 10 HP and 16 ft/lbs of torque over the factory tune.

Of course, you can't actually FEEL the difference but it's there.

Of course, if you add up the cost of the "reflash", headers, intake, and all the other junk you've added... you could've upgraded to a V6, and then some. And, a bone stock V6 will still leave a riced I4 in the dust, unless you add forced aspiration. And the V6 will likely be more reliable than an I4 with an aftermarket tune, which runs the engine harder than Toyota's engineers intended.

Missing cats are illegal... probably doubly so in Kali.

The "butt dyno" is pretty useless. You just spent a bunch of money, so your ass tells you that you've gained massive power. If you just bolted up a turbo, then it's probably accurate. 20hp? The butt dyno doesn't have that sort of resolution.

By the way... cool people can spell "you" and "your" properly, and know where to track down those sneaky punctuation and SHIFT keys on the ol' keyboard.

um... wasn't there a big thing that went on about Jetchips, where they were actually sending back original chips that had nothing done to it? I believe it was from the RSX forums.
