I have 20x8.5 +43mm offset rims with 245-35-20 tires on a gen 6. No rubbing, but I couldn't tell you for sure on a gen 5. BTW it looks like you have 20x8.5 +40mm offset rims.
The way you have it listed is not correct. The first number (20) is the diameter is inches, the second (8.5) is the width of the rim at the tire bead in inches, the third (+40mm) is the offset of the rim in millimeters.
Tire size, first number (245) is the treadwidth of the tire in millimeters, the second number (35) is the sidewall height. 35 means that the sidewall is 35% of the treadwidth. The third number (20) is the diameter.
I'm not really sure what 40/20 means in your post.

dam i really messed that up, I meant which is wiser a 35% sidewall or 40% on a 20x8.5 +40mm offset (235/35 or 40/20)

Oh now is see it.

235/35/20 or 235/40/20. On a gen5 you should stay as low as possible since you are increasing the outside diameter of the tire and changing your speedometer accuracy. Do a search on tire size calculator to see how much error you will have.

outer position extend an extra 30mm
