Gen6 I4 Transmission Gearing.

Just a quick question for 2007+ I4 Automatic.

On your last gear, what RPM are you guys at when you are going 80 mph?

1st gear, 3000 rpm at 80 miles? That is impossible. I would say the rpm will reach the red line at 80 miles.

Wonder why they geared the manual so much lower than automatic?

The overall gear ratio is lower (higher numerically), in every gear of the manual (1-5) compared to the automatic I4 or the V6 (thru 5th gear).

IMOE (in my own experience) at 60 MPH its about 2 lines below 2000 rpm. about 1800. i think its because the overdrive kicks in at highway speed. when i use cruise control its lower than that but it kicks in and pushes to higher RPM's on uphills..

is that clear enough for your mini mind ngerald?

??????????

It's tough to tell those posters who are:

using English as a second language;

or

Adults with a 5th or 6th grade education;

or

Kids with a Government school high school education/GED.

They all have problems with expressing a thought(s), grammar, spelling, using the correct form of words, punctuation, capitalization, sentence structure and the English language in general.

gear ratio * final drive * vehicle speed / tire circumrference = engine speed
