Gen5 The grate behind the throttle-body?

I notice while cleaning my tb (gen 5) that there was a grate behind the butterfly valve. Is this the differance between the TC horsepower rating and the Camry? When I had my 96' Mustang gt the mass air flow side of the tb there was a post that ran down the middle of the mass air flow sensor. When you cut that post out you picked up 4 or 5 hp. That grate maybe deleted in late models to pick-up the loose ponies. 08 TC Scion is rated at 161hp/163tq a 08 Camry le is rated 158hp/160tq. Both cars with 2.4 liter vvt-i

I actually work in the shop of a toyota dealership and was told by a mechanic it's suppose to keep the airflow pattern going in the same direction or something like that. All I know is that it's suppose to have something to do with the direction of the airflow and to keep it even or something like that, I can't really remember what he said but I had the same question as you. Whether it works I don't know
