Gen6 Negotiate best price on 09 XLE

Hi all,
Was wondering if someone could give some suggestions on how to obtain the absolute lowest out the door price on an 09 XLE V6 with the options of heated seats/nav/smart key/stabilty control/carpet trunk mat/ and bumper applique. I live in Oregon am willing to drive anywhere around the state to pick-up a new car-but only when I felel I got a good (low) price. I've phoned several dealers already, but the prices they quote fluxuate wildly. Would really like to find out how much they actually pay for each car before adding the options to the price - that seems like a good place to start. Any others in the Northwest care to share their OTD price (excluding tax) of their 08 or 09 XLE V6? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How about you check out www.Edmunds.com for a True Market Value, search the zillion "what did you pay" threads on here, and check out www.fitzmall.com for no haggle pricing that is really good.

If there were a single action/tactic....Unicorns would be selling cars

Good advice! Thank you wireless. The Edmunds.com websight is a good one.
Have lurked ocationaly on this forum now for a couple of years, and still somtimes have a difficult time gleaning pertinent, specific model year, regional sensitive information using the 'search function'. I guess if was easy, a unicorn could do it.

There's 29 of these at Fitzmall. Don't know if the price includes the current $500 rebate or not.

I am not sure the difference in pricing between Northeast and Northwest - according to what I can find on the net, I bought mine in NE basically for invoice - 100$. I am pretty sure a lot people will tell you that is too much...

If you want the best deal here is a advice for you. Don't buy new, soon as you drive it off the lot it automatically worth about 2k less. Never buy a new car, it is waste of your money. You are spending this much time and energy to find the "absolute best deal" just to give it all up driving it off the lot. Buy a 07 for thousands and thousands less, and when you wanna sell in couple of years( most people get tired of the new car by 3 years or less) or so you are not upside down on your loan or if you purchased cash you can cash it in and still not lose much. I really doubt you gonna give up the new car, but here it was anyways. Good luck buddy.

1. Search the net for new car dealer stocks and see if you can find one in stock somewhere in Oregon.
2. Call to verify they have it and get a phone quote. If it is close, go buy the thing.

In most cases you are better off buying from your local dealer who is going to service it. Often you can get a better deal becasue you are a local and they can calculate in the future profits from the service department. Go to Washington for the car deal and they will never see you again, so any profits have to come fro the sale.

Finally, it isn't worth shopping in Maryland for a car and then driving/hauling it to Oregon. It isn't worth your time to spend countless hours unless your time isn't worth anything. +/- $400 isn't going to matter much in the long run. And if $400 is going to make or break the deal, well bud, you can't afford the car to begin with. Shop for a Corolla, or a Ford Focus.

You just want a good deal. You don't want to be raped. If the local dealer is in the ballpark, negotiate some but give him your business.

Sorry not that true we sell cars to people all over the country. Last month I sold a car to a guy who lives in TX and he drove it back. We sold a couple of FJs to people from Alaska.

Thanks so much for making my point. Air fare from where ever in Oregon to Washington/Baltimore. Cab ride out to the dealer. In this case, drive it to the Left Coast, roughly 3k miles. Drive about 7-800 miles a day. You're talking about a week out of your life and those are hard driving days. Personally, if I miss work it means I spent a sick day and those things are worth $170 a day to me if I don't use them. That's $850. One way from PDX to BWI on AA with 3 weeks advance purchase, $795. Gas about $350 and counting. Four nights at motels at $80 each night. That's up to $2315. That deal at Fitzmall had better be damned good!

For a lot of people the savings is there. The local airports know us very well.

I'm coming down to your dealership when it's time to buy my wife her new Matrix. It's only a few hours drive with the trade-in.

I bought a 2009 V6 SE for 23,800 plus ext. warranty, plus ttl. I opted for the 6/100K bumper to bumper for an extra 1300. Window sticker was 27,600. If the dealer has a bunch of 08's, they may come down like my dealer did. Edmunds listed the invoice as 24K, so I think it was a great deal.

Loomp,

I had a VERY good experience at Wilsonville Toyota, the new dealership there. They put "their lowest price" on each car, which is probably spot-on with the Edmunds TMV price. Of course, if you go to Edmunds and get the invoice price along with the TMV price, you can see that there's room between the invoice price and the TMV price, or whatever Wilsonville will use, so if you are a negotiator, I'm not sure if Wilsonville will go lower than that.

Most "only dealer in town" dealers -- i.e., everything outside of the Portland area -- pretty much DARE you to drive up to Portland. I expect Wilsonville could beat any of these with ease.

Portland dealers might be far more willing to deal with you in terms of price, but they might also be some of the most high-pressure shops, too. Good luck there.

Far more than price, though, might be other parts of the deal -- are you going to be "bringing your own financing," or are you planning on getting financing as part of the deal? Same with "trade-in" -- are you going to trade a current vehicle in, or will that not be a part of the deal?

Bear in mind that any dealership can give you a "good price," but then stick you with the trade-in, financing, or any "extras" in the deal, such as extended service contracts. So, do your research there, too. Get the Kelley Blue Book (kbb.com) trade-in price for your vehicle, and make sure you get the equivalent of an honest assessment of your car from KBB. Get an online idea of what kind of financing deal you should be able to get, too. Also, don't settle for anything but a Toyota "Platinum" extended warranty, and bear in mind that if you pay much more than $1,000 for it (or anything else), you're getting screwed, and also bear in mind that there are different prices for different years / mileage terms -- know your yearly mileage, and don't "overbuy" the extended service contract.

Wilsonville is good in terms of "dealing with you" -- they have commercials saying "no bull here" that are quite true. They'll sell you the car for the discounted price they put on it. They'll give you straight KBB for your trade-in. They'll do their best to get you Toyota Financial Services financing at a good rate. And they'll sell you Toyota Platinum extended service contracts at reasonable prices. There's no "pushing you between the salesman and the manager" -- the salesperson will do the whole deal, from beginning to end. Bottom line, you might be able to get a slightly better price for the car elsewhere, but you might do better with everything else at Wilsonville.

Finally, "try an SE." I think the SE's seat is worth far more than all of the "gadgetry" in the XLE. I sure like the SE's three-spoke steering wheel over the XLE's four-spoker. And so on.

Good luck!
