Gen6 Parking brake issue

When parking on a slight hill, when the parking brakes are applied and in the gears are in park, does you car still roll forward or back when you release your barkes? It seems like the parking brakes is weak. And when you leave and put the gears back in to drive or reverse it make a popping sound likes it’s stuck or something…Has anyone experience this problems.

Thanks

parking brakes need adjustment or the pads need replacing.
Sounds like the cable might need replacing too.

Your owners manual says to apply the parking brake before putting it in PARK and to shift it out of PARK before taking the parking brake off.

Sounds like you are doing it wrong and applying too much pressure to the Park pawl.

There aren't any brake pads for the parking brake...

It sounds like you're not applying enough pressure to the parking brake, or it's out of adjustment.

As njerald stated, you're supposed to apply the parking brake before you put the car in park and release it after you put it into gear.

That sounds like way too much. Go adjust the shoes - I find that the self-adjust mechanism doesn't work very well generally.

Yes, the procedure is in the Parking Brake section of the Factory Service Manual.

Since they are not prone to wear (unless you drive with them applied), I would suggest applying them on a hill side and see if they hold the car in place. If they do and you are not bottoming out the Parking Brake Pedal (auto trans), then you don't have to do anything except follow the Owners manual procedure listed previosly.

if you think its a problem go to your local dealership. Try going onto a hill that isnt busy and pull to the side and put the car into neutral and than press the ebrake. Have your foot on the actual brake just incase though. Does it still roll backwards/forwards?

HEL, seem like I am doing it wrong too. I hate foot parking break. Can't drift or spin with it.

Park your car on a flat surface
Chock the front wheels
Ensure parking brake is not engaged
Lift up the rear end and remove the rear wheels
Put 3 lugs back on finger tight
On the rotor, look for a rubber plug and remove - don't lose this
Rotate the hole in the rotor to 5-7 o'clock position and look inside for what looks like a gear with teeth facing you
Get a screwdriver and rotate the teeth upwards until it stops and the rotor can't turn. If the rotation stops but the rotor still turns, rotate the teeth the other way until it stops.
Rotate the teeth the other way until the rotor can turn freely.
Install rubber plugs, wheels, and lower car
