5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have the latest navigation DVD from Toyota available. It is version 7.1, the newest one available. Upgrading the navigation system is as simple as removing the old navigation dvd and inserting the new dvd.
I have the generation 2/3, generation 4, and generation 5 discs, and they are applicable to the following Camry's. The generation refers to the navigation system and not the Camry.
Generation 2/3
Camry 2002-2003
Sienna 2002-2004
4Runner 2002-2004
Land Cruiser 2001-2003
Prius 2002-2003
Avalon 2002-2006

Warning: There's another seller on eBay that's contacting buyers telling them that what they have just purchased is outdated material and his is more current. He has also listed it several times as 08.10, 8.10, 8.1, 08.02 & numerous other numbers. The bottom line is that he's making this up & ILLEGALLY contacting my buyers via the eBay message system and trying to con them. If you are contacted by ANYONE other than me after your purchase please immediately report them to eBay. Contact your local Toyota or Lexus dealership & ask them what the latest version map disc available is & they should be able to tell you that it's v7.1. Version 8.1 (assuming that will be the next version number based on past history of 5.1, 6.1 & 7.1) won't even be available until Jan 2009 at the earliest. Anything above v7.1 is a complete fabrication & unless this user is going out and recording new streets & POI's himself & writing map code (insert laugh here) this simply isn't possible. He's selling the EXACT same thing that I am but modifying the version in the code which is an easy edit to the folder label. He's says he's 'authorized' to sell them... by who? Ask him. Call your local dealerships & confirm what I'm saying is true & then review the seller's feedback & you'll see that one of us is quite obviously more trustworthy. He claims that you 'won't be disappointed with the results' yet he doesn't offer a refund like I do. He even claims in one auction to beware of sellers offering v7.1 yet if you check you see that he himself is selling it. Is he trying to warn everyone of himself? I hate to post this publicly because it's childish but when he began using the eBay message system illegally to contact buyers of my auction & lie to them to get them to buy from him he crossed the line.
Yes, sadly it's easy to change the version that displays on the screen when you query the version information. There is a file (index.txt) that can be modified to display basically any number you want it to display.
...isn't anybody (other than authorized toyota dealers) offering any version of the nav disc operating illegal, i.e. both guys from njeralds post and anybody offering it here?!

Only if they're selling copies and not original discs from Toyota.

...yes, but do you honestly think someone can get them cheap from a authorized Toyota source to be able to sell it cheaper (and profitable) than Toyota...and even in that case, he needs a resell agreement, probably never pays income tax on it etc.
For me, it is funny to read Njeralds post as that is to me one guy operating illegal complaining about another guy doing the same but with even less shame and more intrigue. wow

Am I missing something??? Didn't you get PWNED by the information posted by NJERALD yet you came back to spam and scam some more?
Um, please be a bit more careful before you accuse anyone of scamming... I believe NJERALD was simply quoting a ebay sellers auction warning his buyers of another seller giving false information as to the newest navigation disc version. The latest version is currently 7.1.
[EDIT] Looks like the seller with the supposed "8.0" version is a member here!

I've seen and purchased OEM discs from ebay and other sources for prices much lower than the $295 MSRP for the 7.1 navigation disc. So one could sell it cheaper than does Toyota and still make a profit.

...are you sure you bought it from a legal, licensed reseller on e-bay? The only case I can think of is legal that somebody got rid of his car/Nav and sells the disc and car/nav independently. If people offer more than one, many different versions, for different NAV's etc...I am suspicious that these are illegal copies. Just my thought.
