5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just stopped at a dealer today and took a closer look at some of the new G8's. They had black, red, and orange in a mix of V6 and V8. In general - nice looking car, decent interior...but after a while all these "air rams" and portholes started to bother me a little. Than I looked around on the dealer lot a bit more and found that more and more US branded cars now have some of these: Caddy CTS, STS, and their SUV's, Buick's Sedan and Enclave Crossover, G8's...and I even found a sport edition Ford Focus with some side vents - all OEM. What's up with that? Big air vents on a Bugatti or Lambo are needed and compliment the sporty, aggressive look...but on these pretty standard powered cars and SUV's? Interesting, I have not seen that on Imports a lot. Is that the latest "hot" thing on US cars? Will the Japanese follow? Just interested in your observation.

Hydrogen fuel cells are useless until we start utilizing better ways to create power. It takes so much juice (that we get from burning oil and coal) to make hydrogen that were not saving anything in that concern. It is good that the technology is being developed but until we start utilizing other ways to generate power (mainly tidal, in my eyes) it's not helping the world's energy crisis.
Im done, sorry

Interesting how topics can take a turn. Tidal waves? Do you mean energy generators, which they now test on the open ocean and extract energy from the oceanic waves? Or real tides? Anyway, I read they can generate a lot of energy (like for a medium city) but not enough to really impact the global energy grid (maybe w/o covering all oceans with these).

haha sorry for the OT. yeah im talking about taking energy from the tidal current and creating power. There are proposals for putting these in areas off the eastern maine coast and in the bay of fundy(55'tides) and Ill admit this is a lot of hearsay but Ive heard it can power all of Maine and other parts of New England. But the rich yuppies that own summer houses here bitch and moan because the tidal turbine will change the Maine tide 6" and dont realize how much it will save in the terms of oil. Some people think that when they hit a switch in their house electricity just comes from a well and they dont put anythought into where the power actually comes from. One downside from my end is that will take jobs from people who work at powerplants, but those are Power Engineers and can find jobs elsewhere in the advancing Power Industry

I am all for using alternative energies - whatever helps! But their are always downsides. Windmill parks caused a lot of issues for people living close to it. Solar cells would need to cover huge areas to really impact the energy grid etc etc.
