5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My car will be due for its 30,000 mi checkup in the the next couple months. My dad had orginally told me that it costs around $100. However he found a service booklet from the dealership and it said the checkup is $435 and list all the things checked on the car. To me most of this seems uneessisary. I was also wondering if I should take it to our regular mechanic instead of the dealership so I can save some money.
I just had my 25K mile service done and I've been wondering this as well.
It seems like most of what you pay for is inspection of various components, from looking at the details of the 30K service it appears that the only thing actually done to the car is:
Oil and Filter Change
Tire Rotation
Air Filter
Cabin Air Filter
Some sort of fuel service.
IMO, all I would have done is the oil and filter change and tire rotation, I would then buy the air and cabin air filter and replace them myself.
I'm due my 30k service soon too. I've had everything done at the dealer so far, so I'm interested to hear if the service really needs to be done to the level they want to do it ...
so youre willing to spend a couple thousand on 22's, but you dont want to shell out a couple bills to make sure you stay under warranty and your car runs properly?
you can knock a couple hundred off if you change out the oil, filter and air filters on your own as well as rotate the tires. but a lot of the inspections they do aren't things that most people normally look at on their cars

As shown in the above posted links, this topic really has been covered several times.
yeah stop clogging the @#$@## FORUMS!! This is IMPORTANT cause there might be a post from 2004 that would only take you 30 minutes to find if you "drill Down"

I have never, EVER, had a warranty issue denied for not having a routine service done at the dealer. Heck, I've never had anything denied for not having the routine service done period.

right, but that's the safest way to go. I do my maintenance work on my own, but for most people who aren't as involved in their autos, it's not such a bad idea to have a qualified tech look at it. Even if not for your warranty but just so they can catch something before it breaks or just to make sure your car keeps running properly.

At least I make contributions to threads. I was looking at your previous posts, you're clearly just a troll.

I'm not planning on getting rims for a while, and my dad had told me the 30k check up was only 100 bucks, so when I found out it was 400 it was a shock. Plus there are somethings on the list that seem useless like checking the head light bulbs and what not.

hey man, not to ding you or anything... but if you don't know much about cars etc... than yeah take it to the dealership....
as for whether you want to take it to your general mechanic or not.... thats up to you, he might not be checking everything, that is specifically recommended by toyota, he might just do fluids... etc....
but seriously, if your not that car savvy, take it to the dealership...
not to ding your pops, but from your comments about rims, and the estimate of a hundred bucks... i wouldn't necessarily go to him on auto advice....
the checkup for a hundred bucks... i'd say that kind of information is at least 20-30 years old...
What *I* do at 30K miles is a total Transmission Flush and a Motor Vac.
Oil Change and/or Rotate/Balance the tires if needed at that time.
Oh...and with my more modern cars...change the Cabin Filter.
Those things get really dirty and plugged.
