Gen6 Diagnostic Fee??

I took my car in to the dealer today to have the transmission looked at.

They said if they can't find anything wrong with it, they might charge a diagnostic fee of $115.

I was just curious if there is any way to get around that.

Thanks for all the input.

You need to supply MUCH more information than you did.

What year and mileage? Have you had them check it before? What kind of problem are you having.

If you said that you just wanted the transmission checked for the sake of doing it, I don't blame them for charging you.

Sorry bro, I am @ work and tried to hurry with the thread.

07 Cam / 10K miles / Took it in for the harsh 5-4 downshift TSB....& oil change / tire rotation.

I took it to them before and they said there was nothing wrong with the car since they couldnt mimic the problem. I wrote down for them and gave them a full description of how to mimic the problem that I am experiencing.

07 should be under warranty right?

They charged me 100 bucks to disable DRL.

100 bucks for DRL disable isn't bad because you are having that feature taken away. I could see that.

Well the good news is I just talked to the manager dude from the service dept., and he said everything is covered under warrenty EVEN the diagnostic fees.

He said the guy I checked my car in with this morning is a new guy and must not have known that my car was still under warrenty.

Whatever. I am not complaining. I love my car, love the service and I am glad that cars come with warrenties.

Sorry for the thread, I kinda freaked out a little when I read my service statement.

Warranty covers defects. It doesn't cover the dealership time to check a car out that doesn't have a problem.

I've only enforced check out charges for cars under warranty only to customers that waste the dealerships time repeatedly.

You need to show the dealership your problem personally with a test drive while you duplicate the problem for them. You should be able to arrange to do this with a Technician, Service Advisor, or the Service Manager. If you can't duplicate the concern and insist that they check your car anyways, I wouldn't blame them for charging a check out/diagnostic fee.

If you duplicate the problem for them, and it's actually a problem, the dealer should have no concerns about checking the vehicle out without any fees being charged to you.

Rodger that TRD, I understand what you are saying and I agree 100%. If you waste the dealer's time, you should be charged.

I have heard in the past that if they cannot duplicate the problem, they will not fix it. That's why I hooked them up with a detailed written description of how to duplicate it. I would love to personally show them with a test drive, but unfortunately, working for the Military, you can't just take time off whenever you need to. 'Needs of the Service' come first.

Hopefully they can duplicate it, diagnose it and fix it.

Meanwhile TRD, stop touching yourself again...LoL

Thx for the input.

You posted a reply while I was typing.

You're right, they have to duplicate the problem to address it.

You sound like a very reasonable customer that does your best to help the dealership, help you.

I'm glad it's working out for you, and thank you for being in the military. I've stopped touching myself just for you.

Yeah, I figure....why go to the service dept. with a fist full of TSB's and a puffed out chest demanding for things to get done?? They don't want to hear that crap, they have better things to do. ESPECIALLY when you waste their time, it takes time away from other customers as well. The world runs smoother when everyone is happy.

Thank you for thanking me, LoL. It's something I love doing.

You can touch yourself though if you want to.....its healthy.

Well.......

I got my car back today. Turns out the service tech was able to duplicate my problem as per description I gave them.

TSB was applied for the 5-4 harsh downshift and now it rides as smooth as silk.

Paid $153 for the 10k service and we are good to go.

I love it.
