Gen6 I4 Stock Intake

Here are a few picture’s, was wondering what this felt like material is on the bottom side and if its of any use, wondering if I could cut out and have another hole for air intake.

I can't see that removing it would be beneficial in any way. The intake opening is already larger than the tract that goes to the airbox.

Would it hurt the engine or anything by trying?

I am sure it is there for a reason. Why would you want to take it off for 'increased' airtake? Why not just go aftermarket?

If it can be done and works, it’s a helluva lot cheaper than aftermarket, and it still looks stock. And its a quick do it yourself thing that will take 10 minutes and $0 lol rather than $300 and an hour or so. Time doesn’t really mater to me, its the $$$

Just leave it alone. Put in a TRD or K&N filter and call it a day. Anything else is a waste of money. Opening the air intact tract there doesn't change anything else downstream, so it's a waste of time.

They're basically the same. I got the TRD filter for my Camry and a K&N for my '95 Formula.

K&N filter cleaning and re-oiling kits (filter recharger kits) are much cheaper than TRD's kits. I think that the filters themselves are about the same price. Personally, the extra $10 or so every couple of years doesn't bother me anyways.

Having a TRD filter will also keep the dealer from complaining about any potential problems while you're under warranty.
