I have a Garmin portable navigation (streetpilot C550) that I keep trying to use in my camry but it can never acquire satellites, i then took it out and walked away from my vehicle with it and it got reception...what in my car could cause my portable navigation not to work in the car? would my bluetooth JBL radio or my autodimming mirrors have anything to do with it? Also it was mounted on the inside of my windshield.

No problem with my Garmin and I have it on the face of the dash (not the top).
I have Bluetooth JBL and an auto dimming mirror (but just one) also.
Try moving the unit to the side of its present mount.

I have a Garmin nuvi 260. It is mounted to the windshield with the suction mount. I have it a little to the left side of the clock. I don't have any problems with reception. Maybe you could try a slightly different location.

Someday I will list my mods here
I have used a Nuvi 350 in a fully loaded XLE and a bare bones CE (both '07). In both cars, the device was sitting on the cup holder and it worked without issue.
Also, I just bought a Nuvi 260 (tho it's backordered). I plan on mounting it on the empty black plastic space behind the windshield wiper stalk. Hopefully I can mount it high enough to make it easily viewable.
Picked up a garmin as well nuvi 200... haven't tried it in my Cam yet, but what i did notice was that it takes a while to pick up satellites when it's cloudy out... could the weather be your problem? i heard WA's not that great weatherwise

Garmin Nuvi 750... no problems when it's mounted on the windshield in the center above the clock. Every once and a while it takes an extra minute or two to acquire a signal- but has never taken longer than 4 minutes at most.

I wonder if the slight delay of the Garmin is a "feature". My nuvi 260 will sometimes take a few minutes to acquire the satellites. It doesn't seem to matter what vehicle it is used in. My brother-in-law has a TomTom and it never takes more than 15 or 20 seconds.
